This week I've been in Azerbaijan - a country that wants to be part of the climate solution and leading action as COP29 Azerbaijan hosts. I was also pleased to announce that Azerbaijan will host #WorldEnvironmentDay in 2026 with a focus on #ClimateAction. Together, we can meet our climate goals.

Urban Nature-Based Solutions in Focus🏙️ This week, the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre hosted an event on the role of #urban #NatureBasedSolutions in #climatechange mitigation and adaptation. Experts and key stakeholders gathered to explore how these solutions can enhance #cities' resilience while addressing rapid #urbanization and #climate challenges. Highlights included insightful discussions and a panel debate on how to systematically apply of nature-based solutions, making nature-based solutions bankable for cities, and strategies to integrate nature-based solutions into #urbanplanning. The event was hosted in collaboration with the Danish Nature-based Solutions Knowledge Platform to foster collaboration and enhance understanding and implementation of nature-based solutions. This has to end."🔥✋ 🌞 Those were the words by Last Mile Climate's Advocacy and Policy Officer Kuol Arou Kuol at our webinar "Powering progress: market creation strategies for solar e-cooking technologies in off-grid and displaced communities" 🌍🔋co-hosted by UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre, World Food Programme, Global Platform for Action (GPA), HCBL, and Government of Uganda. 📑The webinar expanded on our recent report on the potential for solar e-cooking that offers a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative🌞🍲, reducing 2-4 tonnes of CO2 emissions per stove annually♻️. Proud to have conducted the inception workshop for Net Zero Transport Projects in the city of Kumasi, #Ghana. This workshop marks a step forward in our mission to enable #cities in developing countries to transit to #netzero #transport while incorporating principles of transport justice and equity. The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including government and city officials, academics, transport operators, transportation experts, and sustainability advocates, to collaborate on innovative strategies and solutions for a reducing carbon #emission in #urban transport in Kumasi. Our discussions focused on using avoid-shift-improve frameworks to seek opportunities for #green technologies, enhancing public transportation #infrastructure, and promoting green mobility initiatives like non-motorized transport and public transport. The enthusiasm and commitment from all participants was encouraging. Motivating us to work even harder in paving the way for a cleaner, greener future for fast developing cities in #Africa and #Asia. Today is #WorldRefugeeDay - a day honouring refugees around the globe and celebrating the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. Through the Global Platform for Action (GPA) UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre works to enable #sustainable #energy access in displacement settings ensuring an inclusive #SDG7. The GPA works to ensure energy access in humanitarian settings by providing a collaborative agenda for energy, development, and the humanitarian sector to transition into a low-carbon industry as we collectively work towards a sustainable and resilient future for all, including refugees. To mark this year's World Refugee Day we are hosting a webinar on the newly released report: "Powering Progress: Market Creation Strategies for Solar E-Cooking Technologies in Off-Grid and Displaced Communities". This webinar will explore how we can enhance energy access for #refugees and displaced persons, focusing on sustainable solutions like solar e-cooking technologies.
