Stroke Awareness Month is coming to a close, but preparedness never ends. For those who have had a stroke or are caring for people who have, it's a good idea to work with a doctor to create a plan to prevent secondary stroke. At our nationally-recognized Comprehensive Stroke Center, we provide outpatient and follow-up care that improves outcomes and brings peace of mind.

A UCSF Health surgeon recently completed our 15,000th robotically assisted surgery! Congratulations to everyone in the robotic surgery program for reaching this amazing milestone. “We were one of the first institutions in the western U.S. to do robotic surgery, and we stay very up-to-date and are always incorporating the latest robotic technologies,” Johannes Kratz, MD, a thoracic surgeon and medical director of the robotic surgery program, says. “We have been able to reach this milestone of 15,000 assisted surgeries thanks to UCSF Health’s commitment to incorporating the latest advances in medicine to better the care of our patients.” ➡️ https://ucsfh.org/3X8cdGW

An intriguing recent study from researchers at University of California, San Francisco explored the potential of LLMs for triaging emergency department patients. In the study, the #AI model accurately identified the more severe patient case 89% of the time based solely on symptom descriptions, performing on par with physicians in one of the first studies of its kind to use actual, privacy-protected clinical data. Lead researcher Dr. Christopher Williams joined As Prescribed to share what makes this study’s findings unique, what it could mean for practical uses of AI in emergency and other types of medicine, and what aspects of AI might we want to be cautious about applying to medicine.

Each year during Mental Health Awareness Month, the Campus Life Services team schedules opportunities for the UCSF and UCSF Health communities to de-stress. Last week, at the Koret Quad in Mission Bay, we welcomed several friendly llamas for students and employees to meet, relax, brush, and take selfies with! A big thank you to UCSF Campus Life Services and llama owner Geo Caldwell for making the event possible.
