About us
TruAmerica Multifamily was founded in 2013 on the premise that repositioning Class B apartment communities presents a tremendous value proposition for investors. We unlock the potential in these properties through tailored renovation, re-positioning strategies, and focused asset management. We are a partnership between industry veteran Robert E. Hart and The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. A mutual insurer founded in 1860, Guardian Life is a Fortune 250 company with a track record of long-term financial security and stability. We are one of the country’s most active multifamily investors. We manage a $7.9B portfolio of 37,240 units across prime locations throughout the Western and Eastern United States. We continue to expand our reach and portfolio by selectively acquiring, renovating, and effectively managing multifamily properties. Each member of our leadership team has 15+ years of experience in real estate, investment, finance, construction, asset and property management. We rely on our team of dedicated employees to grow and refine our offering and knowledge base.

In Episode Six of his ongoing podcast series, Building Better Communities with Bob Hart, Bob spends time with Wall Street icon Ethan Penner. Widely recognized as the 'Father of CMBS,' Ethan offers insightful perspectives as a successful real estate financier, investor, and author of his new book, "Greatness is a Choice.” In this episode, Ethan shares how his more than three-decade CRE investment career has focused on building better communities by bringing solutions to fill large market voids. Among several topics, Ethanshares how he built Nomura’s CMBS platform from zero, ultimately becoming the largest lender by volume in the history of the U.S. in only its second year. Alexis Sofyanos had the pleasure of speaking on the ‘Investing in Commercial Real Estate’ panel at this week’s Connect CRE's Money event in Chicago. She and her fellow panelists answered questions about today’s unique market: from the implications of "higher for longer" to where opportunities—or distress—may be found today. The event’s attendees were primarily registered investment advisors (RIAs) and broker-dealers, so the panel was able to shed light on what advisors should consider when investing in real estate, how capital can be protected in volatile markets, and ways to access platforms like TruAmerica Multifamily. Reach out directly to Alexis to learn more.

TruAmerica would like to recognize and congratulate its very own Matt Ferrari, Co-CIO who traveled to Tibet, China on a personal mountaineering expedition. His goal was to climb to the North Col of Mt. Everest which he accomplished at 8:33am Kathmandu time on Sunday, May 19th where he planted the TruAmerica flag in strong winds and snow. The North Col of Mt. Everest has an elevation of 23,011 ft. / 7,016m and is typically the highest point on Mt. Everest that climbers reach before switching to supplemental oxygen to push for the summit. Matt climbed with Alpenglow Expeditions and is very grateful for his mountain guides Carla Perez and Roberto Morales of Ecuador and the many Sherpa that supported the entire team. It is the first time that the north side of Mt. Everest has been open to foreign climbers during the spring climbing season in five years as the southern side in Nepal is a much more popular climbing route. Matt is making his way back to the U.S. and already working with the team on its next acquisition!
