REVISUALIZE RADAR WITH RADAR VISION Radar technology has existed for a long time. Over the years, innovations have taken place that have evolved Radar into a very capable sensor albeit with significant limitations. One such limitation is that its resolution is quite low, especially compared to optical and light-based sensors. For this reason, we feel that Radar has been overlooked as a sensor in the modern marine industry, especially recreational marine – Radar is a standard for collision avoidance, but its output is clunky and requires experience and training to for operators to interpret it properly. Since 2021, Tocaro Blue has been testing and developing the ProteusCore™. The Core is a machine learning pipeline that ingests Radar scan lines, and outputs a machine readable list of classified and tracked objects. The relative simplicity of this system marks a significant leap forward in Radar technology, and is a new basis for human interface focused displays. The ProteusCore™ can determine whether an object is a small boat, medium boat, or large boat, or a variety of buoys and markers, with confidence and complete automation. NEW FEATURES FOR PROTEUS! Our team has been hard at work delivering product enhancements to our Early Access Partners. Check out the recent feature additions: Expanded Cartography (Picture 1) We have expanded our base cartography to include the entire coast of the United States. Users outside of Florida should be able to see depth maps and channel markers in most coastal areas.   Proteus supports C-MAP cartography if you desire more detailed map data than the provided cartography. Visual Warnings (Picture 2) We have added a new setting to enable more visually apparent warnings and alerts while underway. The new visuals fill the screen with color, making it easier to spot a dangerous condition even while not directly at the helm. If you would like to test these new visuals, please go to "Menu" -> "Preferences" -> "Display" and enable "Show Alert Gradients" on the second page. Pop-ups and Badges (Picture 3) When the Proteus detects an issue with your system, it will display a small orange or red badge near the problem. Tapping on the badge will display a pop-up containing more information about the issue. During a recent test, our team was privileged to take Houston Jones along for the ride. Houston is a retired US Navy Captain, who most recently was the Commanding Officer on the USS Miami (Los Angeles Class nuclear submarine). Houston observed the Proteus display in operation and shared with us this comment after his ride: "On scene observation of how this system incorporates real time machine learning [...] and dynamic waterborne situational awareness on an intuitive and quite flexible single display screen was amazing; and frankly “game changing” to use an old but appropriate cliche."
