Hard truth: Being a great individual contributor doesn't automatically make you a great people leader. But let's be clear - it's not your fault. 🙅♀️ Managing teams takes a new skill set organizations rarely provide. If managers don't learn proactive support, even well-intentioned ones risk demotivating and losing talent. Despite this, our report found only 10% of orgs make promoting work-life balance a leadership success metric. Yikes! 😬 On the bright side, 90% of you have an exciting growth initiative to look forward to! Check the comments for the 5️⃣ critical actions to unleash your emerging leaders' potential.

🌈 Pride is here, but it’s not all celebration. 🌈 Traditionally, Pride celebrates connection and reflection. But this year, our Queer@PI Employee Resource Group leadership team feels a mix of excitement and apprehension from a surge of anti-LGBTQ legislation and security warnings that have overshadowed festivities. Official advisories highlight our precarious position—a community eager to celebrate love and identity but forced to stay vigilant,” says Ryan Donnelly-Brelling (she/her), a leader of Queer@PI. “However, there is immense power in our unity and visibility.” PI supports Queer@PI and the community internally through our mission, “Better Work, Better World” paired with: 🔨 Building a formal Employee Resource Group program with Change@Work, focusing on community and belonging. 🏳️🌈 Creating a safe environment by adopting inclusive language and allyship tips in our products and teamwork. 💵 Donating and volunteering at organizations that support the community, like Rosies Place and Point of Pride. 🤝 Sponsorship of the 2024 Westwood Pride event. 🧑🏫 Continuing to bring in experts to speak on diversity and allyship tips like Megan Doherty-Baker (she/her), Onllwyn Cavan Dixon, Ed.D. (he or they), Rónán Tuggle, LMSW (they/them), Schuyler Bailar (he/him) and Rebecca Minor (she/her/they). “I am thankful to work for a company that has invested in creating ERGs to create connections, make space, and invest in expert training for our employees.” Ryan Donnelly-Brelling (she/her) Check out Ryan’s blog and the links in the comments to learn more about being an active ally: https://bit.ly/3RpUVSl

Would a plumber show up to a job without a plunger? Our expertise is in behavioral science rather than plumbing, so we're not 100% sure, but feeling pretty confident they wouldn't. The same concept applies to managers. They don't need a plunger (usually), but they do need to be equipped with the proper tools to be successful. The group in the best position to help them achieve this success is your HR team. 🤝 🗓️ Join Matt Poepsel, PhD for our next webinar on June 12 at 2 PM ET. Perspectives: New Tools of the Management Trade. ⚙️ Register here to hear from HR experts who will share how they've answered the call of management in need of success enablement: https://bit.ly/3wzMZqm

Is your team underperforming, or do they simply lack clarity on what good performance looks like? 🧐 According to our Successful Leader Report, one-third of organizations do not have a formal way to measure the success of their leaders. For the other two-thirds, here's a question: How can you expect your leaders to be successful if they don't know what success looks like to you? The answer is simple: you shouldn't! Without clarity, you'll inevitably hold back those who want to excel. But with the proper tools and context, you can turn their confused head-scratching into empowered leadership. Are you taking the right actions to enable your leaders to succeed? Find out in the comments. 👀

When it comes to work styles, there is no one-size-fits-all all solution. In fact, one size usually fits none. Some thrive remotely in business casual tops and their most comfortable pajama bottoms. Others have FOMO at the idea of missing coffee maker conversations. Successful teams accommodate both. As a leader, you need to know what your team wants. Create an environment where individuals flourish their way, not how you think they should. When people can work authentically, they'll go the extra mile. One size fits none, but embracing our differences? That's always a perfect fit. #Management #HumanResources #Technology
