The New Pennsylvania Project reposted this
Proud to be part of an organization fighting to make sure every vote is counting.
Today, the New Pennsylvania Project stands in support of the New PA Project Education Fund (NPPEF), the ACLU of Pennsylvania, and the Public Interest Law Center in their lawsuit against the Pennsylvania Department of State and Secretary of State Al Schmidt. It is vital to fight at all levels to ensure that every voter has their mail-in ballots counted. New voters, BIPOC voters, and new citizens already face numerous barriers to participating in our democracy, and we must not create more. We have a moral and legal responsibility to ensure every eligible vote is counted. “Unfortunately, disqualifying voters’ mail ballots over a trivial paperwork error on their return envelope discourages voters from participating in the democratic process,” says Kadida Kenner, CEO of the New PA Project Education Fund. “We want Pennsylvanians voting twice a year — every year — not disenfranchised by this unnecessary rule.” In Pennsylvania, elections are often decided by the slimmest margins, and every vote counts. It's time to protect voter rights and ensure all voices are heard! Change is possible! #VotingRights #FairElections #ProtectOurVote #BIPOCVoices #VotePA https://lnkd.in/eKsFrSPx

Today the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus' hosted the 3rd Annual K. Leroy Irvis Day of Action on May 22-23, commemorating the 46th anniversary of Speaker K. Leroy Irvis' induction as the first African American to serve as a speaker of the House in Pennsylvania and the first in any state legislature in the United States since Reconstruction. This significant event featured panel discussions on the State of Black PA, Black business, Black maternal health, gun violence prevention, and voter disenfranchisement. Kadida Kenner participated in the event and can be seen here celebrating with Speaker Irvis' wife, Cathryn L. Edwards and the current Speaker of the House, Joanna McClinton, who is the first African American woman to be Speaker of the House in Pennsylvania. Let’s take today to honor Speaker Irvis' legacy and advocate for our community. #KLIrvisDayOfAction #Advocacy #BlackPA #NPP #votepa

As we head into 2024, there are still politicians trying to make it harder for Pennsylvanians to vote. Today, New Pennsylvania Project's CEO Kadida Kenner and leaders from across the Commonwealth addressed the Pennsylvania House Majority Policy hearing to advocate for voting rights and increased access to the polls. With the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act failing to pass in Congress, it is imperative that Pennsylvania enacts state laws to protect voter rights and ensure every citizen has access to the ballot. Join us in supporting fair and inclusive elections. #VotingRights #ProtectOurVotes #NPP #votepa

“Kadida Kenner, CEO of the New Pennsylvania Project, a voting rights organization that has helped register 40,000 new voters in the state over the past three years, said her team often encounters people who believe misinformation “as it relates to the safety of our elections,” she said. Kenner said she believes “there’s bad actors that are absolutely putting bad information” on social media to cast doubt over the electoral process “with the intent to suppress votes.”
