While we did not bring home the first place prize, I am humbled and honored that H.O.P.E.™️ Circle and our 2nd Annual Day of H.O.P.E. Celebration of Life in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida event was nominated and deemed a #FINALIST for the Downtown Orlando Partnership Golden Brick Award for the “Community” category 🏆🌟 Here's a link to the category: https://lnkd.in/gswA6riT The nod as a #Finalist in an incredible pool of talented initiatives happening in the downtown of the City of Orlando was important for the young people past, present, and future of H.O.P.E. Circle. It was a recognition that their voices, lived experiences, and research interests mattered. It was a recognition that young people deserve a seat at the proverbial table of not only policy and practice but also banquet halls. It was a recognition that a tragic, gun-related death of a club member (which IS the genesis of this youth-led participatory action research initiative/intervention and the spark of the 2nd annual Day of H.O.P.E.) can become a transformative experience that can both acknowledge (past) hurt and trauma and still stretch forth toward the possibilities of healing and victory. As I’ve shared publicly and privately the strength of H.O.P.E. Circle is an amalgamation of time, trust, and reciprocity from adults who serve alongside young people weekly as critical allies in an impactful youth-adult partnership. So, thank you to past and present allies Jasmine D. Haynes, Ph.D., MSW Itunu Ilesanmi, Ph.D. Liliana Belkin, PhD. Misha Zaidi, Ed.D. Ashley Morris, PhD, LCSW Melonie Sexton, PhD Alexandra Silio, Hendrix Michelce, and Andrew Antoine. And I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge and give double honor to my family -- my Mrs. and kiddos --for allowing me to serve in this intimate, community-engaged capacity. Thank you 🙏🏾❤️ And finally, kudos to the winner within the community category, The Desire Foundation Inc #Project814, who is doing incredible work for and with some of the most vulnerable members of our society, our unhoused neighbors in Orlando. #youthvoice #youthadultpartnership #youthleadership #CommunityEngagedResearch #CommunityInformedResearch #criticalallyship #impact #GoldBrickAward #DowntownOrlando

Grateful for your constant support and partnership
Yesterday, I was honored to celebrate with Jennifer Desir Hilaire, founder of The Desire Foundation’s "Project 814" program, which WholeLife Church supported throughout 2023, and team…as a recipient of the 2023 Golden Brick Award this year. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Project 814 emerges as a beacon of hope in Parramore, tackling food insecurity within a critical food desert. Led by the Desire Foundation, Inc. and Interstruct, this initiative empowers the community by supplying essential resources. In collaboration with Second Harvest Food Bank, WholeLife Church and 4 Roots, it distributes 15,000 pounds of free groceries to over 1,383 individuals monthly, alongside offering pantry services with fresh produce and meats. Beyond food assistance, it helps more than 200 people acquire government IDs and secures job placements for 30 individuals. With the support of over 400 volunteers contributing 36,256 hours valued at $1,152,940.80, Project 814 plays a pivotal role in the collective effort to combat food insecurity and job unpreparedness, thereby strengthening community ties. Thanks to nearly $40,000 in contributions from Interstruct Design + Build Inc and The Desire Foundation, Project 814 profoundly influences Parramore's cultural, economic, and civic spheres, promoting poverty reduction and community resilience. Congratulations and job well done to you and the team. If you have any of these items in stock and would like to do your part in giving back, today would be the day! Our first major event of the year, Project 814, is less than 10 days away, and we will gladly take any resources provided to benefit our cause.
