While we did not bring home the first place prize, I am humbled and honored that H.O.P.E.™️ Circle and our 2nd Annual Day of H.O.P.E. Celebration of Life in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida event was nominated and deemed a #FINALIST for the Downtown Orlando Partnership Golden Brick Award for the “Community” category 🏆🌟 Here's a link to the category: https://lnkd.in/gswA6riT The nod as a #Finalist in an incredible pool of talented initiatives happening in the downtown of the City of Orlando was important for the young people past, present, and future of H.O.P.E. Circle. It was a recognition that their voices, lived experiences, and research interests mattered. It was a recognition that young people deserve a seat at the proverbial table of not only policy and practice but also banquet halls. It was a recognition that a tragic, gun-related death of a club member (which IS the genesis of this youth-led participatory action research initiative/intervention and the spark of the 2nd annual Day of H.O.P.E.) can become a transformative experience that can both acknowledge (past) hurt and trauma and still stretch forth toward the possibilities of healing and victory. As I’ve shared publicly and privately the strength of H.O.P.E. Circle is an amalgamation of time, trust, and reciprocity from adults who serve alongside young people weekly as critical allies in an impactful youth-adult partnership. So, thank you to past and present allies Jasmine D. Haynes, Ph.D., MSW Itunu Ilesanmi, Ph.D. Liliana Belkin, PhD. Misha Zaidi, Ed.D. Ashley Morris, PhD, LCSW Melonie Sexton, PhD Alexandra Silio, Hendrix Michelce, and Andrew Antoine. And I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge and give double honor to my family -- my Mrs. and kiddos --for allowing me to serve in this intimate, community-engaged capacity.
