How could a discovery in the gut microbiome offer a roadmap for immunotherapy? New research from investigators at Gustave Roussy demonstrates that the ratio of specific microbial communities in the gut can help to predict who will respond to checkpoint inhibitors. CRI Scientific Advisory Council member Dr. Jennifer Wargo of MD Anderson Cancer Center describes how these insights provide assistance in answering "why the search for a single gut microbe that could boost responses to cancer immunotherapy was so challenging. Instead of focusing on individual microbial species, the work shows that the overall make-up of microbial communities in the gut influences a person’s response. 'It’s all about the community structure,' Dr. Wargo says." More: https://lnkd.in/eFzuvn8B #Microbiome #CancerResearch #Immunotherapy #GutMicrobiome

According to a recent article in The New York Times, re-evaluations of past studies have uncovered overlooked truths: alcohol, in any amount, is detrimental to our health. Researchers believe that drinking seven alcoholic beverages a week could cost us about two and a half months of our lifespan, and consuming five or more drinks daily could reduce our lifespan by over two years. Understand how you can weigh the health risks of alcohol consumption, in order to make informed decisions about your drinking habits, in our new blog: https://bit.ly/4clntES #CancerResearch #CancerRisk
