ICYMI: Our #healthcare system has ONCE AGAIN been recognized as a national leaders in #LGBTQ+ healthcare equality! All four #StonyBrook Hospitals were recognized by the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) survey of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for the ways in which we address and affirm the specific and unique needs of LGBTQ+ individuals. The HEI survey serves as the national LGBTQ+ benchmarking tool that evaluates healthcare facilities’ policies and practices related to #equity and #inclusion of their LGBTQ+ patients, visitors and employees. All hospitals received the top score of 100 on a survey encompassing non-discrimination and staff training, patient services and support, employee benefits and policies, and patient and community engagement. Today's All-Q&A Town Hall was a great success! Since 2019, our Mobile Stroke Unit (MSU) has responded to over 8,000 calls, providing specialized, life-saving care to people within the critical moments of a #stroke. Ralph Sabatino experienced a severe stroke one evening. Ralph’s wife recognized the symptoms and called 911. Within minutes, an MSU arrived, conducted a #CATscan, and relayed the results to Dr. David Fiorella. Ralph bypassed the Emergency Department and went straight to the #OR, receiving life-saving treatment in record time. Bill Rothmeier suffered a stroke while driving. After his wife called for help, the MSU arrived, performed a CAT scan, and administered treatment on the way to #StonyBrook University Hospital, where Dr. Fiorella successfully removed two blood clots, saving Bill’s life. Now, Ralph and Bill are both fully recovered thanks to the quick intervention of our Mobile Stroke Unit and our #HealthcareHeroes. Recently, Stony Brook University Hospital's leadership team toured the #StonyBrook Heights Rooftop Farm and planted 18 beds of fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs! The Stony Brook Medicine #Nutrition Division maintains this rooftop farm to provide fresh produce for our patients and community. All of the produce is distributed to patients, the Stony Brook Medicine Food Farmacy, the Stony Brook University Food Pantry, and other nutrition programs.
