We're underway in a few cities with more kicking off soon, but some Girls Rise Up locations are still accepting applications. However, time is running out! Our Girls Rise Up program offers three weeks of engaging STEM education that infuses dance into the learning process. Our girls leave their cohorts with: ✅ A greater understanding of STEM, including the ability to code ✅ A boost in STEM confidence ✅ A new community of like-minded girls Get those applications in for the remaining cities at https://lnkd.in/eAgnneva . . . #steameducation #stemforgirls #youthdevelopmentprogram #nonprofitfounder #socialimpact

Girls Rise Up kicks off this month, and our 2024 lineup includes 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 in addition to our Los Angeles announcement last month – 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗴𝗼 & 𝗠𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗶! We’re thrilled to bring our program to The Windy City and The Magic City for three weeks of STEM engagement through dance. A huge shout-out to @blackgirlsdance in Chicago and @codeartorg in Miami for stepping up and serving as our amazing partners and hosts. Follow along this summer as we share updates from both of these cohorts. We have a feeling we’re going to see some amazing tech-infused performances from these ladies! . . . #girlsinSTEM #STEMeducation #GirlsRiseUp #socialimpact #womeninSTEM

Our Girls Rise Up students are filled with cultural pride, and this dance reflects exactly that. The crowd was roaring for them, and the fun vibe they brought to the stage! STEM From Dance isn’t just about flashing LED accessories to complement dances. Our girls often showcase their new coding skills with amazing animations that amplify their performances, just like you see here. Girls Rise Up 2024 is now underway, and we're excited to see what they come up with this year. Want to learn more about what’s happening this summer? We ❤️ Melodie. A success story in the making, Melodie is a STEM From Dance alumna and Georgia Tech Engineering student!! “Being part of the STEM From Dance community helped me develop an interest in engineering that I am pursuing in college, and being able to take leadership while working as a team gave me the confidence to fight to achieve the future that I want to be a part of.” Melodie is what STEM From Dance is all about. Reach out if you would like to learn about the journey that took Melodie, and other girls of color just like her, from STEM From Dance to the college STEM classroom. https://lnkd.in/gpRrkfP5 . . #engineering #STEMFromDance #womeninSTEM #STEMeducation

Here’s a headline we love to see >> “𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀, 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀” And of course, we love a good science-backed study. 🔬 To sum up this article in a nutshell, putting on your dance shoes and turning up the music is the most effective way to combat depression. This study compared dance as a mental health treatment against traditional treatments such as medication or cognitive behavioral therapy…𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦! Side note…The more rigorous the dance, the more your mood will boost! So get into it! Take a few minutes to read this latest study (link in comments!), then bust out those dance shoes... P.S. Watch the video for some inspo ;) . . #mentalhealth #dance #depression #science #StemFromDance

🚨 Less than 5% of our STEM workforce is currently Black women. 🚨 (nsf.gov) This has huge implications for the world if we don’t change it. Innovation is driven by diverse thoughts and perspectives. Different points of view, backgrounds, and life experiences are what make the world go ‘round. 🌎 We’re all creative in different ways…we all think differently…we all have something unique to add to the conversation. A male-dominated STEM industry lacks much-needed perspective. This is why STEM From Dance exists…𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝘆. We’re adding more women of color to the STEM workforce and helping them claim their rightful seats at the table. Here’s how we’re doing it, one girl at a time >> Check out the video. Our participants coded animations to serve as a backdrop for the performance they imagined and choreographed! . . . #STEMeducation #girlsinSTEM #womeninSTEM #dance

“𝙄 𝙙𝙞𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙜𝙤 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡.” – Sokona In 2018, we met Sokona at our STEM From Dance #GirlsRiseUp program. Prior to our program, a STEM career was not on her mind — at all. Thanks to dancing and coding LED light suits that complimented her choreography, Sokona got excited about MATH. Today, she’s a college grad with a Mathematics degree — and is now analyzing data at an architecture firm that designs university campus buildings! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 We love a good STEM From Dance success story, and Sokona is one of our favorites! 🎉 We are beyond proud that STEM From Dance impacted her career trajectory and that she’s on her way to doing great things within the STEM workforce. What questions do you have about the 2024 Girls Rise Up program? . . . #STEMforgirls #STEMgirls #blackgirlsdance #youthdevelopment #communitydevelopment #STEMsummercamps

A new survey of girls in 5th through 12th grades has revealed that only 55% feel confident in themselves...an all-time low. (Ruling Our eXperiences) The major contributing factor is not surprising …𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖. An overwhelming 46% of respondents admitted to 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟲+ 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀, with more than half saying it sparks a desire to change how they look and two-thirds saying it makes them feel less confident about their bodies. May is National Teen Self-Esteem Month, which makes this the ideal time to take action for the sake of our teen girls. There is no better way to rebound girls’ confidence than by getting them OFF their devices and empowering them to take charge of their futures. We’re proud of the role STEM From Dance is playing in this effort …boosting confidence to new heights by combining their love of dance with new STEM skills that could change the trajectory of their lives. In fact, confidence is built into the 4 C’s on which STEM From Dance was founded… ✨ Culture ✨ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 ✨ Community ✨ Creativity If you know a teen girl who is struggling with self-esteem, check out our Girls Rise Up program for a location near you. The community it provides and the spark it ignites have changed the lives of countless girls. . . . #NationalTeenSelfEsteemMonth #nonprofitleader #STEM #diversityadvocate
