Shalyn Clark's career accomplishments as a State Farm independent contractor agent have been part of the journey, not the destination. With over 40 years of experience, learnings, growth and leadership, what Shalyn values most are the relationships she's built with her team, State Farm customers and the community. "I have a deep sense of pride knowing I can make a true difference by helping people through difficult and stressful times. I am intentional in creating and building relationships that last through generations — it comes from simply doing the right thing with each customer and taking an interest in their lives and their families." Shalyn's initial career goal was financial independence. As time went on, many more unexpected benefits came from her decision to become a State Farm agent. "It’s been a journey of challenges and growth, twists and turns, mentoring and being mentored, as well as embracing constant change. I seek to be an example of the 'good neighbor' philosophy of how one person's dedication to customers and community can result in personal and professional success. When I reflect on my 40+ year career, I've realized the journey has been a conduit of crossing paths, making connections, weaving lives together and just naturally helping others." Eric Lu credits his drive, passion and resilience to his family and upbringing. Placed in two refugee camps in Malaysia and the Philippines at the age of six, then moving from Vietnam to the U.S., Eric had to acclimate to a new language and culture. His desire to learn and overcome adversity kept him focused on his goal to help others. "I wanted to be a scientist or a doctor when I grew up as a way to contribute to society and make a positive impact. After working in the hospital during my college years, I decided to go a different route in how I could make a difference." Eric learned of the State Farm independent contractor agent opportunity and found fulfillment in mentoring and volunteering in his community. "My purpose is to make a difference in peoples' lives, and I can do that as a State Farm agent. Prior to becoming a State Farm independent contractor agent, Dustin Tsu worked in the investment management industry for 15 years. After the birth of his first child, Dustin and his wife moved back to Los Angeles from New York to be closer to family. "I was still working in finance at this point but felt compelled to leave corporate life and pursue small business possibilities as our two children grew older. When I learned about the State Farm agent opportunity, I realized I could leverage my extensive financial services experience while educating customers to help protect themselves, their loved ones, and their hard-earned assets." Dustin reflects on the recent hardships he's endured and the reminder to cherish the blessings he has. "With a recent medical scare, I have experienced a deep appreciation to take time with loved ones and a greater understanding of family protection. It’s been a dynamic year in California, but I have an incredible support system that I’m deeply grateful for. What keeps me going is knowing that my team and I are doing everything we can for customers – our hearts are in the right place. Having the privilege to serve and raise my family in the same community I grew up in is so rewarding." Learn more about becoming a State Farm independent contractor agent: https://lnkd.in/giWjAvk9

Prior to starting her State Farm journey, Kim Hinkle spent 13 years in the finance industry as an expatriate. Upon returning home from overseas after the company left that location, she felt a disconnect in her career she hadn't noticed before. "I come from a family of many small business owners, so I always entertained the idea of being my own boss. As someone who had broken barriers and advocated for myself to get where I was in my previous role, the thought of starting over caused hesitancy. It was through my husband's encouragement that I took a leap of faith." Kim shares her experiences as a State Farm independent contractor agent and the culture of her office. "When I opened my office doors, I didn’t know anyone. It took three years to build my reputation, but I knew if I did the right thing and treated others with respect, it would come back in a good way. My team and I may come from different upbringings, but we all have the same goal in mind – to help people.” Learn more about becoming a State Farm independent contractor agent: https://lnkd.in/giWjAvk9 #AANHPIHM
