As we weathered a pandemic, a new term arose: She-cession. 💡 Women were disproportionately affected by the shift to remote work and schooling, and quit their jobs in droves. Economists worried this would have permanent effects on the cause of equality. But, according to a The Atlantic piece recently penned by Olga Khazan, the permanent-ish shift to remote work has actually been a boon for women. “Prime-age women” (not our term!) from 25 to 54 are working in greater numbers than before the pandemic. The ability to work from home and have flexibility around scheduling is driving the statistics in this way. Of course, as a team of recruiters at Stackrock Talent, it’s obvious that not every company has gone remote and made work more flexible for working mothers. But there’s a trend 📈 Khazan’s research points also to inflation and the re-starting of student loan payments as two of the factors influencing women back into the workforce. Plus, the re-availability of childcare. However, the availability of remote work should not be discounted ☝️ #shecession #HRnews #worktrends

The labor market continues to be hot 🔥 The end of 2023 saw several consecutive months of job growth in the US, and joblessness remains at near-record lows. The increase in payrolls was almost double economists’ expectations, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. 👉 Still, if you ask workers, they’re in doubt. Employee confidence is down, and CNBC notes a “deteriorating sentiment…likely due to financial stress among workers.” With hundreds of thousands of jobs added in 2023 Q4, there has to be a better one out there for you! If you’re looking to change things up and find a better job, a recruiter is your ally. Those of us at Stackrock Talent are here to help. Get in touch today. 📨 #hiring #jobsearch #labormarket

How does the talent pool feel about its prospects these days? 🤔 That’s the question asked by Glassdoor’s Employee Confidence Index. In this survey, employees specifically rate their employers according to a “6-month business outlook” — or how optimistic they feel about their employer over the next six months. We at Stackrock Talent love the way Glassdoor conducted this survey. People coming to the site to make normal reviews saw one additional question on the usual Glassdoor review interface: a thumbs-up or thumbs-down on “6-month business outlook.” 💡 The aggregate results showed that employee confidence in their employers has gone down by 5.8% since the same time last year. In certain sectors, the drop was more dramatic. In the information sector, for instance, it was an 11.9% fall. Make sure job seekers know how you differ from these companies with falling business outlooks. Consider even working with a recruiter! According to a recent Glassdoor report, middle managers’ morale is down 📉 Specifically, they’re less confident in their employers’ 6-month outlooks. Why does this matter? Because, as Daniel Zhao, lead economist at Glassdoor, says: “Middle managers are important bellwethers for how business is doing. They’re not so high up in the company that they lose their connection to frontline employees.” If you suspect your middle managers might be flagging, it’s time to lean into HR. HR can: 👉 Check in with middle managers to gage their workload in terms of hiring and related matters 👉 Make sure you have enough people involved with hiring and interviewing, so it’s not all on one or two managers 👉 Recognize the efforts of your middle managers both in person and publicly Hiring an outside recruiter like those of us at Stackrock Talent can be very helpful in spreading the load of hiring across more people and taking some of the pressure off the middle managers. #HRadvice #middlemanagers #hiring

🤔 So you’re thinking of hiring a recruiter to help round out your hiring efforts... Here are a few questions to consider in your scouting. 1️⃣ How do you use data to help you recruit? 2️⃣ What’s your measure of quality in hiring? 3️⃣ What’s your retention rate for new hires? 4️⃣ How do you let down a candidate who doesn’t get chosen? 💡 These types of questions help get to the heart of how a recruiter works and what level of integrity they uphold in the process. As a team of recruiters, we at Stackrock Talent work closely with many companies and hiring managers, and I have answers for all of the above. Send us a message today to chat about it 📨 #hrhelp #hiring #recruiting

Companies are reporting a marked shift in how their people treat sick leave. While once, calling in sick was practically considered a sign of weakness for white-collar workers, now, it’s been normalized 🤒 The payroll company Gusto reports that in 2023, 30% of white-collar workers with PTO have taken sick time — an increase from prior years. And younger workers are taking it the most. COVID, of course, started this trend, but as we’ve emerged from the pandemic, plenty of other viruses have jumped in for their moment in the limelight. It really does seem like we’re all getting sicker a lot more often than we used to. 💡 There are other factors, though. While older generations may have liked to brag “I never take a sick day,” this attitude is not considered a badge of honor by Gen Z, a generation obsessed with work-life balance. Also, with record-low unemployment, employees aren’t so worried about losing their jobs, and remote work has made the idea of coming in five days a week less “normal” in the first place. 👍 As we at Stackrock Talent have been seeing, this shift toward self-care seems like it’s overall a positive one for company culture. However, for leaders, it can take some getting used to. #HRnews #sickday #pto
