In honor of Lei Day in Hawai‘i, SSFM’s Honolulu office staff were treated to a lei making workshop, “Ka Hana Lei.” After a lesson in the dos and don’ts of making, giving, and wearing leis, and an overview of styles and techniques, we followed a live demo to make our very own lei hilo. MAHALO to our lovely kumu, Jena Earle of Strategic Services Group, and Maile LaFave of Civil Group!

SSFM took time to enjoy the firm’s long tradition of honoring the Lunar New Year. 𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗛𝗢𝗠𝗘 Our world continues to be challenged by threats to our environment. SSFM has made sustainability and resilience a cornerstone of our practice. Our approaches and techniques for addressing climate change permeates our thinking, our professional practices and our client’s projects. We’ve participated in transformative projects, focused on the environment and mitigating sea level rise. Multiple current awards (https://lnkd.in/gdxWddnd) from the American Planning Association for our environmental work is gratifying recognition of the impact we are having. We’re especially proud of the renewal of our LEED Gold Certification for our Honolulu office (https://lnkd.in/gZiKvPAN). While we’ve been addressing environmental resilience for projects throughout the Islands, we're committed to practice what we preach by assuring that our office environments meet the highest standards of sustainability. Our staff worked diligently on the LEED renewal process and we recently learned of our LEED Gold recertification. 𝗦𝗦𝗙𝗠’𝘀 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆. 𝗦𝗦𝗙𝗠 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗮 AFTER ALMOST 20 YEARS AT THE SAME LOCATION, OUR MANILA OFFICE HAS RELOCATED TO A DEVELOPING BUSINESS DISTRICT IN METRO MANILA. A NEW SPACE HAS BEEN A LONG-TIME GOAL AS OUR OFFICE CONTINUES TO GROW. We expect to be adding even more people to today’s staff of 37. This year the goal of moving to a modern building with a brighter, and more spacious home like the Honolulu corporate office, has finally been accomplished. Our Manila teams exist to produce design and construction documents, as well as other support services, for the Hawaii, Guam, and Japan offices. We collaborate with SSFM Groups to ensure quality, accuracy, and address our clients and reviewers’ concerns. The Manila Office teams are simply an extension of the firm-wide network of civil, structural, and project management groups. 𝗦𝗦𝗙𝗠 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 The American Planning Association has recognized SSFM International with four Awards for Planning Excellence. The awards recognize individuals, communities, private organizations, public agencies, and professional planning and design firms whose work exemplifies the planning profession’s highest goals and ideals. The SSFM International team received the National APA Award for Resilience & Sustainability for the Kauaʻi Sea Level Rise Constraint District plan. The plan was created, in support of the County of Kauaʻi in collaboration with its clients and partners.
