It all started with an idea from Pamela D. Fox, CIC about 20 years ago... "What if we stopped paying for weekly office cleaning service for our Ellijay branch and put that money towards a college scholarship for our local high school graduating seniors?" Since then, that selfless act has provided almost $40,000 in scholarships for Gilmer County High School students through the Gilmer Education Foundation. We were shocked to find out when AnneMarie McPherson Spears said,  “any commercial client who uses AI to aid the hiring process or to process data is at risk.” when speaking of the topic of AI being used in the hiring process. But don’t fret! While our company has been (very carefully and methodically) employing AI with certain tasks to make life a little easier, our hiring process is not one of them! Our very own Oliver Schubert has been hard at work, sifting through hundreds of applicants and candidates to find the right people for the job, and present to the big man himself, without a hint of discrimination as Spears had warned about in her article. One of the coolest things about this post from Tony Stephens is that he and Brenda Hammond live about 600 miles away from each other, and to our knowledge, they've never met in person. That's because Tony works remotely from his home in Virginia, while Brenda works from one of our offices in Georgia. Does that stop them from developing strong bonds as a team? NO! Does it prevent them from serving their clients with passion? NO! Should where you live dictate where you can work? WE DON'T THINK SO. At SSI, for the majority of our positions, we don't think so.
