Rosie’s Place is in full bloom! Our classrooms are buzzing, our Dining Room is bustling and across programs we are busy working to provide help and hope to the women who are counting on us.

For poor and homeless women—on the streets or with nowhere cool and safe to go—this weather is more than difficult, it’s dangerous. Our Director of Public Policy Tri Tran, chair of Massachusetts Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA) advisory council, presented Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll the Community Champion Award at MIRA’s Give Liberty a Hand gala. Rosie’s Place, is proud to lend our hands to working for liberty and justice for all.

Rosie’s Place is proud to have just received the Boston Bar Association’s John G. Brooks Legal Services Award recognizing our “holistic approach to meeting the complex needs of our most vulnerable residents.” We are heartened by this honor.

Fifty years ago, Kip Tiernan and a few friends opened Rosie’s Place in an abandoned supermarket, marking the birth of the first women’s shelter in the United States. Kip’s vision, activism and compassion are the foundation of everything we do at Rosie’s Place. Today, on what would have been her 98th birthday, we celebrate Kip’s boundlessly caring spirit and honor the impact she has had on every member of our community. #boston #kiptiernan #community

A guest recently came to our Legal Program’s regular advice and referral clinic seeking help in asking her landlord to address mold in her apartment building. Working with our volunteer attorney, the guest documented the toxic conditions and very soon after, the unhealthy living conditions were remediated. #housing #legalaid #support

Three times a month, our Legal Program along with Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Boston Bar Association and Greater Boston Legal Services staff a table at the Edward W. Brooke Courthouse to provide support to community members attending housing and family court. Our Court Access Project team helps women navigate an often overwhelming and complex legal system. #legalaid #boston #housing
