    The RISD Distinguished Alumni Awards Induction Ceremony held on Friday, February 9, 2024, was a resounding success, honoring esteemed graduates from both Aycock High School and Rockdale High School. It was truly inspiring to see our past graduates celebrated for their outstanding achievements and contributions to their communities and beyond. The Distinguished Alumni Awards program, now in its 3rd induction period, seeks to honor graduates who have excelled in various fields, demonstrated exceptional leadership, and positively impacted their communities. This year's honorees continue to build on the rich legacy of Aycock and Rockdale High School graduates. The 2024 Rockdale ISD Distinguished Alumni Awards inductees are: George Sessions Perry, (Rockdale High School, 1927) honored posthumously: An American novelist, World War II correspondent, and one of the highest paid popular magazine contributors of his time, George Sessions Perry's legacy as a literary figure and journalist remains influential to this day. Susie E. Sansom-Piper, (Aycock High School, 1937) honored posthumously: Susie E. Sansom-Piper, the last principal of Aycock High School, bridging the gap between segregation and integration, dedicated her life to education. A teacher and principal for the Rockdale school system for 42 years, she was also a writer and historian preserving the history of Rockdale's African-American community contributing over 43 years of articles to The Rockdale Reporter. Lawrence Anderson (Rockdale High School, 1960): Lawrence Anderson, a submarine officer for the US Navy, who also played a pivotal role in transforming the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) into the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), as well as contributing in the development of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), showcasing leadership and expertise in the field. Michael "Mike" Brown, (Rockdale High School, 1968) honored posthumously: A respected journalist, photographer, and an editor of The Rockdale Reporter, Mike Brown's contributions to local media left an indelible mark on the community, capturing and chronicling the stories that shaped Rockdale. James Crow, (Rockdale High School, 1970): James Crow, with a distinguished career in advocating for public education, has worked tirelessly to ensure the success of Texas public schools. Serving over 25 years as the executive director for the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), Crow has played a crucial role in shaping education policies that benefit students and communities statewide. Clayton Wolf (Rockdale High School, 1982): Clayton Wolf, a distinguished wildlife biologist, dedicated 30 years to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, retiring as Chief Operating Officer in 2023. His commitment to environmental stewardship has had a lasting impact on the state's natural resources. #BeRockdaleProud
