It’s been a fantastic week of sharing and learning at the 2024 Big Ten and Friends Utility Conference! Together with our engineering cohorts, facility owners, operators, and other higher education professionals, we are helping to define the future of higher education infrastructure and tactics to elevate sustainability. RMF’s Jared Markle, PE and University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB)’s Jagdish J. Jani shared a compelling presentation on the enhancements of UMB’s electrical distribution system and the sustainable path forward for their campus. Here's to Penn State University for successfully bringing us together again at the Big Ten & Friends Conference! RMF was pleased to sponsor the event. #rmf #rmfengineering #electricalengineering #Big10AndFriends #CampusElectrification

Join us at Penn State University's Big 10 & Friends Utility Conference, where RMF’s Jared Markle, PE and University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB)’s Jagdish J Jani will be discussing how strategic planning and innovative technologies have allowed for an upgraded electrical distribution system at UMB. This project not only fortifies the campus grid for future growth but also paves the way for sustainable initiatives like electrical vehicle charging and carbon reduction technologies. We are looking forward to sharing insights on overcoming urban construction challenges and the substantial impact this upgrade will have on UMB's vision of a greener tomorrow. Join us for a glance into the future of energy distribution! RMF's Caroline Fitzgerald, PE and Brian Wodka, PE, CxA, CEM, LEED AP will also be attendance and look forward to connecting with you. We are a Bronze Break Sponsor. Can’t make the conference, or want to know more about the project? Farewell old steam absorption chillers, hello teamwork and innovation! Last weekend marked an exciting milestone in the intricate upgrade to Inova Fairfax Hospital's central utility plant, which replaced aged chillers with new high-efficiency, variable-speed electric centrifugal models. Not only does this enhance capacity and reliability, but it also significantly reduces our greenhouse gas emissions. The result? Nine active chillers representing a total installed plant cooling capacity of 11,750 tons, working synergistically with a satellite plant of two 1,800-ton chillers for a combined capacity of 15,350 tons. We're proud to be a part of bringing this advancement to Inova Fairfax Hospital! Fun Facts: 👉 This installation was complicated by a “no look” crane lift, which required trust and excellent directional communication over walkie talkie 👉 RMF also was part of the installation of new chillers at Inova Fairfax Hospital in 2013 👉 The new machines are each 1,250 tons capacity (54°F/42°F) using R514 refrigerant which has a low greenhouse gas factor. RMF's Construction Quality Team has been diligently at work enabling DTE Vantage's efforts in bringing Ford Motor Company's new Central Utility Plant to life at Blue Oval City in Stanton, Tennessee (the site of a Ford automotive assembly plant, and a Ford / SK Battery joint venture battery plant). RMF has had boots on the ground since November 2022 with a team of full-time site inspectors providing daily CQM services for the plant that will deliver a sustainable, efficient, and continuous supply of utilities for the entire site. RMF is proud to fuel the future of the automotive industry and revolutionize transportation with our comprehensive utility and sustainable energy solutions! The new CUP provides electrical power (15 MW), steam (320 KPPH at 150 PSIG), chilled water (50,000 tons), hot water (300,000 MMBTU/HR), cooling water (8,000 GPM), and compressed air (54,000 SCFM) to the entire site. The CUP produces these utilities with a combination of combustion turbines with heat recovery steam generators, centrifugal and heat pump chillers, geothermal wells, and a ten-million-gallon thermal energy storage tank. #rmf #rmfengineering #engineering #CQM #centralutilityplant
