Excited for Gaurav Bharaj, Surya Koppisetti, Divyaraj Solanki, Ali Shahriyari, and the rest of the Reality Defender team as they head to CVPR in Seattle later this month. Their paper, Audio-Visual Feature Fusion for Video Deepfake Detection, proposes Audio-Visual Feature Fusion (AVFF), a two-stage method that learns to detect deepfakes by capturing the correspondence between audio and visual modalities, achieving a high accuracy of 98.6% on the FakeAVCeleb dataset. I'm beyond thrilled to see our team's work gain recognition at one of the premier computer vision conferences. It's a true testament to their dedication and expertise in #deepfake detection.

Late on Friday, news broke about a state-sponsored attacker's deepfake of a prominent U.S. official. This deepfake made the rounds on Russian social media, with Russian officials and news services immediately reacting to the #deepfake as if it were real and a provocation. Why is this important? Because it's a major escalation, one that comes five months before the U.S. election, and was treated as factual and actionable by our adversaries. At the end of this year, we may look back at this moment as the turning point where deepfakes became not a new avenue to fabricate and influence truth, but a way for those with ill intent to justify unjust measures.
