Delve into our interactive “Live Emotion” gallery to explore some of the most iconic venues across sport, live performances and other major global events from the past 40 years. Our unique design history has acted as the backdrop for much bigger stories and moments — those of community, sustainability and passion — for four decades and counting. As we commemorate this milestone, we want to say thank you and celebrate with you, the individuals across the world who fill these venues with the emotion that gives them meaning. Tonight at Children’s Mercy Park, the U.S. Men’s Olympic Soccer Team will face Japan in their final game ahead of their journey to France for the 2024 Olympic Games. Soccer showcases the power of sport, bringing people together and captivating audiences everywhere. The fluidity of the game, along with its display of sheer athleticism, offers a viewing experience like no other. Children’s Mercy Park emulates that fluidity in its design, with the building’s exterior of repeating angular metal fins representing the players’ movement on the field. Check out the game tonight at 7pm CST. Learn more about our design of Children's Mercy Park: https://lnkd.in/gxyf543P

Cricket’s an internationally beloved sport, one that’s quickly gaining popularity within the US. For the Men’s T20 World Cup, we were honored to work alongside the International Cricket Council to design Nassau County International Cricket Stadium It certainly took a village to build this completely modular, temporary, 34,000-seat stadium in such a short timeframe. Donald Lockerbie and the team at The Parker Company, The LandTek Group, Inc., ME Engineers, PMY Group, Arena Group and Alchemy. When the tournament concludes, all elements will be repurposed for future sporting events and the field will draw locals together, remaining in Eisenhower Park for the community to enjoy. #WeArePopulous

When MLB’s event-day operations make the 4,000-mile journey from the U.S. to the UK for the annual London Series, a tremendous amount of work is needed to transform London Stadium — originally designed by Populous for the 2012 Olympic Games and now home to Premier League football club West Ham United — into a world-class ballpark. Our Populous Events team has once again played a pivotal role in this transformation, collaborating closely with MLB and field experts from BrightView to create an MLB-compliant ballfield from scratch in under three weeks. This involved installing foul poles, a batter’s eye and backstop, dugouts, 46,000 square feet of netting, and over 144,000 square feet of artificial turf. Additionally, the stadium seating has been reconfigured to bring fans closer to the edges of the iconic diamond-shaped field, and the venue’s purpose-built MLB player ‘clubhouses’ have been adorned with Mets and Phillies branding. Following the series, the team will begin dismantling the setup, ensuring that by the time the Foo Fighters take the stage for the stadium’s first concert of the summer on June 20th, you wouldn’t even know they were there. The Philadelphia Phillies will play the New York Mets in the MLB World Tour: London Series 2024 on June 8-9 at London Stadium. Ticket details can be found at ticketmaster.co.uk/mlb

Today marks the grand opening of BMO Centre in Stampede Park in Calgary, Alberta. Stampede Park is home to The Calgary Stampede — “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth” — a 10-day event that welcomes over one million people to the site each year. BMO Centre infuses the energy of the Stampede into all aspects of its design, resulting in an international icon of modern architecture that is firmly rooted in Calgary’s culture and traditions. Clad in shimmering copper panels, the sweeping form of the convention center’s canopy rises over the darker earthy tones of the lower levels, capturing the juxtaposition of the earthy agricultural elements of the Stampede and the glamorous attire of the participants. Together with Stantec and S2, our architecture partners, we also provided almost two acres of public space in a new plaza through stacking the exhibition halls, meeting rooms and ballroom. This plaza allows the Calgary Stampede to expand their experience offerings during the festival and creates an activated community destination for the rest of the year, bringing local Calgarians into the convention district for year-round use. Designing spaces in unique natural environments requires a different kind of thinking. We have regular opportunities to work locally in the many different regions our offices are located. Colorado is a stunning example of how familiarity with a landscape directly informs design decisions. Our work on the Southeast Aurora Recreation Center in Aurora, Colorado, is a purpose-built center that fulfills the unique needs of its community. The quietly elegant structure is informed by the surrounding environment — from its locally-sourced materials to the positioning of the building to provide stunning mountain views. Replete with contemporary training equipment and fixtures, the Recreation Center and Fieldhouse also provides an element of adaptability that will increase its longevity and ensure that future generations can benefit from its functionality.
