Our government center campus in North Auburn has been a World War II-era Army hospital, a state psychiatric facility and is now home base for many county services. This week we unveiled an updated vision for future additions to the campus: a reimagined destination center anchored by achievable housing and an indoor/outdoor marketplace that celebrates Placer County’s home-grown goods and services. Key elements include: 🏡 Achievable mixed-income housing designed with an “agri-hood” concept, incorporating gardens and local products. 🍇 Production-to-consumption facilities like wineries, bakeries, and breweries, celebrating our rich agrarian heritage. 🌳 Beautiful parks and flexible commercial spaces to support local businesses and community activities. 🛍️ A pedestrian promenade lined with shops, restaurants, and a marketplace showcasing Placer County’s home-grown goods and services. The Auburn community this month lost a local pillar, Auburn Chamber of Commerce CEO Jackie Weston, far too soon. Our Board of Supervisors yesterday approved a commendation posthumously honoring her countless contributions and joined our neighbors for her funeral procession. Our thanks to former Auburn Mayor and City Councilmember Daniel Berlant for joining us to accept the commendation on behalf of her family. Our deepest condolences to Jackie's family and friends.

Behind the scenes of summer pool fun: Environmental Health specialists, best known for restaurant inspections, also inspect 571 active pools, spas and splash pads across Placer County, covering public, commercial and multi-family residences. 🏊♀️🏊♀️ Specialists do annual or biannual checks to ensure pools and spas are enclosed to prevent unsupervised access by children, and look for entrapment and drowning hazards from improper recirculation systems. They also examine water chemistry to prevent germs from causing illness and to keep the water safe for skin contact. 𝐖𝐡𝐲? Thank you Steve Newsom and CAPPO for taking this amazing opportunity to showcase the successful #DesignBuild process used to deliver our new Health and Human Services Center with top procurement professionals across the state!
It was an honor presenting to the California Association of Public Procurement Officials, Capital City Chapter on Placer County's success using Design-Build to deliver our new Health and Human Services Center. Our HHS Center is a 142,000 square foot facility that consolidated six Health and Human Services divisions previously located in separate facilities around the County. The team had a difficult task creating an innovative "one stop" solution to serve a large number of clients and staff while completing the first Net-Zero Energy facility for Placer County.

Penny Bear - made from 170,000+ pennies - has become a huge attraction since our North Tahoe community came together to install it at our Commons Beach park in 2019. We're giving a big shout-out to artist/creator Lisa Ferguson, who came out last week to give the bears a bath! Ferguson brings out her power washer, glue and replacement coins ever year to ensure Penny Bear is ready to welcome our visitors to this beautiful place. #publicart
