✨Congratulations to the April CARES Award winners, who embody the Phelps Health values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service.✨ CARES Award Winner: Justin Bratcher, Human Resources I was a new employee in orientation for patient sitter and part-time chaplain roles, a few days after the first anniversary of my wife’s passing. A nurse was explaining the staff’s appropriate response to a patient coding. It was so accurate that I went right back to the time when my wife had coded, and I came unraveled. I left the room, went to HR and told the woman at the desk that I couldn’t do the job. She asked me not to leave, as someone would be right out to help me. I hesitated to stay due to embarrassment and my determination not to be talked into the patient sitter job, even if it meant sacrificing both opportunities. Justin appeared quickly, and I discovered that he wasn’t trying to talk me into either position. He was clearly interested in me and my welfare during this time. We sat and talked until my emotions subsided. This experience is why I’m still here at Phelps Health as part of the chaplaincy program. I am writing to express my heartfelt thank you to Justin, and to thank all employees who make Phelps Health a caring place. We Caught You Caring Award Winner: Cheryl Newman, Registration I was in the Emergency Department (ED) with a person whom I cared for, who had to be transferred for a brain bleed. I rode with her and her grandson, and realized I had no way to get home because I left my phone and my car at the patient's house. Cheryl came walking through the ED waiting room. I began telling her my story, and she went out of her way to take me to the patient's house to pick up my car and phone. I will be forever grateful! Department Award Winner: EPIC Team (not pictured) I would like to recognize all EPIC leaders, analysts and trainers for their hard work and willingness to help with projects throughout the organization. Many of the LEEP projects I facilitate require at least one EPIC team member. These projects are extra duties that aren't already planned in their workloads. Yet, they add them to their schedules, helping make Phelps Health better for patients and all those who work here. EPIC staff have brought a variety of process improvements to fruition that would not have been possible without their involvement. They help with innovations in patient safety, staff workflow, and both patient and staff satisfaction. I want to let them know that we see them and appreciate them. We have been hard at work this year to ensure we're prepared for any potential emergency situation. ✔️Enhanced Security: Upgraded our infant security system to ensure the safety of our youngest patients. ✔️Improved Response: Updated the Phelps Health Emergency Operations Plan for a swift and effective response. ✔️Continuous Learning: Regularly attend Missouri SEMA Region I meetings to stay up-to-date on best practices. ✔️Training and Drills: Participated in emergency response exercises like the SEMA Tabletop and Mass Casualty Decontamination drills. ✔️Staff Readiness: Conducted hands-on patient evacuation training across Phelps Health facilities. ✔️Prepared for All Scenarios: Engaged in simulated workplace violence exercises to equip staff with necessary skills.
