PFN is in the news! It was another exciting week for PFN! Earlier this week, a few of our PFN leaders and friends at 123NET previewed the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Middle Mile Broadband Infrastructure Project to local community leaders in Benton Harbor at The Lake Michigan College Mendel Center. The $87 million project includes the construction of undersea routes between Charlevoix to Beaver Island to Gulliver in the UP, and Benton Harbor to Chicago, as well as overland fiber routes connecting Charlevoix to Grayling, Port Huron to Flint, and Benton Harbor to Grand Rapids. The project will help to bring high-speed internet to underserved Michigan communities and over 35,000 Michigan homes. We're honored to be a part of an incredible project that will prove to be a building block in providing reliable internet throughout Michigan!

Exciting news from PFN! A congratulatory shoutout to one of our fearless PFN leaders, Tim McKee! Last week, Gretchen Whitmer announced she has reappointed Tim to a term on Michigan's State 9-1-1 Committee. Tim has been reappointed to represent members of the general public with expertise relating to telephone systems, rural health care concerns, or emergency radio communications, dispatching, and services, for a term commencing May 2, 2024, and expiring December 31, 2025. Our PFN family is so proud of the essential work that you do on a day-to-day basis. Kudos to you and your team for keeping our communities safe and continuing to promote the successful development, implementation, and operation of emergency 9-1-1 response systems across the state of Michigan. Thank you is not enough. Way to go, Tim!

It was all sun and smiles on Capitol Hill this week for our PFN team! A few of our PFN & Winn Telecom leaders attended the NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association Legislative and Policy Conference in Washington DC, which took place April 28–30 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill. The conference brings community-based providers together to hear the latest on federal telecom policy issues and to unite to advocate for their communities and the rural broadband industry. What an honor it was to stand next to Congressman Bergman as we work together and help shape the future of our communities!

It's National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW), and in honor of all the remarkable work done by our country's emergency telecommunicators, our team at PFN would like to share this awesome "911 Telecommunicator Tree of Life" website! Each name submitted creates a “leaf” on the virtual tree, which represents telecommunicators and PSAPs that have been recognized by the 911 community or the public. NPSTW is a great time to celebrate your co-workers or a professional whom you may know in the Safety Telecommunications field by adding a leaf in their name and sharing their inspiring stories! Do you have someone you'd like to personally call out and thank for their service?! Here's your chance! Add their leaf to the tree and let the world know just how truly special they are! And on behalf of all of us at Peninsula Fiber Network, thank you ALL Public Safety Telecommunicators for the life-saving work that you do! You are appreciated!
