About us
Open Government Partnership is a multi-stakeholder initiative focused on improving government transparency, accountability and responsiveness to citizens. OGP brings together government and civil society champions of reform who believe governments are more effective and credible when they open their doors to public input and oversight. Since OGP’s launch, its membership has grown from 8 to 75 countries, 150 local governments, and thousands of civil society organizations participating in the OGP process. OGP countries represent one third of the world’s population and have made over 4,000 policy commitments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance. The Support Unit serves as the secretariat for OGP. We are a nimble, international team that supports participating countries and civil society partners, including through promoting peer learning across the OGP network. Recognizing the significant growth of OGP and the relatively small size of the Support Unit, the team works with the OGP Steering Committee to outline clear strategic priorities and cultivate partnerships to achieve these goals.

🇳🇴 Norway, a founding member of OGP, is now implementing its first four-year OGP action plan for 2024-2027. Building upon previous plans, it addresses ongoing challenges in #opengov and seeks to make public administration more open, inclusive, and accountable. Norway has committed to: 1️⃣ Develop a more strategic approach to anti-corruption work through a white paper on economic crime and launch an anti-corruption website to centralize information on anti-corruption efforts across ministries and agencies. 2️⃣ Establish an authoritative source of quantitative data on public procurement to improve policy-making. 3️⃣ Enforce regulations on universal design of ICT solutions to increase inclusion regardless of disabilities, age, and language barriers. 4️⃣ Simplify privacy statements on public websites for more understandable and accessible information. 5️⃣ Provide free, quality digital skills training and support through municipal cooperation, business responsibility, regular surveys, and collaborative campaigns for digital inclusion. 6️⃣ Evaluate the eInnsyn publishing service to determine if it has achieved goals of improved security, effective data protection, streamlined administrative processes, and enhanced accessibility of public documents. 7️⃣ Ensure better access to criminal case documents. The Norway OGP action plan also mentions several issues that could become commitments in the future, such as advancing #lobby transparency and integrity, determining how new technology especially in the #justice sector affects freedom of #communication and the protection of sources, and ensuring better #accesstoinformation in the #health sector. 🇦🇲 On June 6-7, the EU for Integrity programme organised the 2024 Eastern Partnership Community Dialogue, hosted by The Government of the Republic of Armenia and supported by USAID and Counterpart International's Civil Society in Action program. The event convened 80+ representatives from #Armenia, #Georgia, #Moldova and #Ukraine, including OGP Local members from across the region, fostering a vigorous dialogue and exchange of challenges and best practices on good governance and public participation. Key takeaways: 🔹 Good governance reforms are key: Opening remarks from the Prime Minister's Chief of Staff, Mr. Arayik Harutyunyan and EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos underscored the importance of advancing #opengov reforms and hailed the promotion of transparency, access to information, effective management of public resources and reducing corruption as the foundations for democracy and peaceful coexistence. USAID Mission Director John Allelo and Counterpart International Director Katherine Krueger emphasised the role of civil society in driving these efforts and the significance of partnerships in fostering a supportive environment for meaningful, sustainable reforms. 🔹 Civil society is a crucial guardian of election integrity: civic watchdogs, including Dr. Magnus Ohman from The International Foundation for Electoral Systems and Nicolae Panfil from Asociația Promo-LEX, discussed strategies to combat dark money in politics and ensure transparent electoral processes. 🔹 Anti-corruption action springs from regular monitoring: OECD - OCDE’s Rusudan Mikhelidze highlighted advances on the implementation of the Istanbul Anti-Corruption Action Plan and spurred discussions on leveraging these insights for impactful reforms. 🔹 Safeguarding civic space is a must: European Center for Not-for-Profit Law Stichting's interactive workshop, with insights from Simona Ognenovska, shared tips and examples of protecting civic space, building on recent experiences from the region and beyond. 🔹 Advocacy insights from metrics can engender a race to the top: Alexandra Sabou from the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum showcased the latest findings of the #EaPCivilSocietyIndex, presenting use cases for effective advocacy and policy improvements. 🔹 OGP offers valuable resources for better advocacy: Peter Varga and Anastasiya Kozlovtseva from OGP shared recent trends and good practices in transparency and citizen participation, drawing on OGP's toolkits, IRM reports and global OGP commitments, mobilising participants for further open government reforms. A huge thank you to our partners, speakers, and all participants for making this dialogue a landmark event in our journey towards better governance and civic engagement!
