  • Last week, OPPD representatives attended the Vietnam Veterans Memorial opening ceremony in Papillion. The memorial honors the 396 Nebraska troops killed in action in Vietnam, as well as four who died in a training accident before being deployed. We are proud to have contributed to creating a memorial that pays tribute to the fallen. 💙🤍❤️ The memorial is located south of the SumTur Amphitheater near South 108th Street.

  • Last week, we held our first-ever Community Resource Fair in North Omaha, serving over 300 customers from 120 households. 🧡🏠 OPPD customer care representatives and 15 non-profit agencies were on-site to provide a variety of resources to assist attendees. Our efforts included working with customers on their documentation for energy assistance applications, enrolling customers in the Customer Assistance Program (CAP) Pilot Program and the Payment Installment Program, and distributing more than $29,000 in energy assistance to 82 customers. A massive thank you to all those who worked tirelessly to make this pilot fair a success! 🧡📅 Mark your calendars for our next Community Resource Fair, which will be held at the Salvation Army Kroc Center on Tuesday, Oct. 8th from 5-7 p.m.

  • We're celebrating #PrideMonth by shining a light on our LGBTQIA+ employees and allies. Meet Jim, Human Capital Programs and Planning Manager at OPPD. 👋 In this role, Jim collaborates with the Human Capital leadership team to plan and implement initiatives that align with OPPD's vision. For Jim, Pride Month is about more than celebration—it's about support and understanding. With family and friends in the LGBTQIA+ community, it's an important time to recognize struggles, celebrate progress and show support. Jim believes that fostering an inclusive environment at OPPD is crucial. By embracing different perspectives, we can better serve our customer-owners, integrating unique needs and viewpoints from the community. His advice? "Always be curious, seek to understand, resist fear and intolerance, and you have no business being a judge." 🏳️🌈

  • Our Employability Pipeline Program recently welcomed 25 interns—our largest class to date! These talented students and recent graduates will gain hands-on experience, paving the way for future public-power careers. The program is specifically designed to enhance experiences, improve retention and help us foster a diverse and skilled workforce. In 2023, we proudly hired 41 participants from our developmental programs. At our welcome luncheon, the class met their managers and heard from LaShonna Dorsey, Executive Director of the Nebraska Tech Collaborative and internNE, Powered by Aksarben. OPPD and internNE are partnering to provide a unique opportunity for students, employers and the community to co-invest in the future of Nebraska. Say hello to our interns and thank you to all those who have helped make this program successful. 🧡 👋

  • We're celebrating #PrideMonth by shining a light on our LGBTQIA+ employees and allies. 🌈 Meet Danielle, Digital Media Coordinator at OPPD. 👋 As OPPD's professional photographer and videographer, Danielle makes the invisible visible—capturing the dedication and hard work of our employees and keeping our community informed. For Danielle, Pride Month is more than a celebration; it's a testament to the progress made in LGBTQIA+ rights during her lifetime. She finds immense joy and inspiration in Pride parades, seeing them as moments of pure magic and exuberance. In an inclusive work environment like the one fostered at OPPD, Danielle witnesses a direct impact on service quality. She's seen firsthand how diverse teams with fewer blind spots can collaborate seamlessly to provide reliable, affordable and environmentally sensitive energy services. Plus, they are better equipped to anticipate and address the varied struggles faced by our community. Danielle's advice? "Be guided by the magic within you, even if it looks different than anything you’ve ever seen before. The world needs it." ✨
