CEU Educational Group (CEU) has selected OCLC's WorldShare Management Services (WMS) as its fully integrated library services platform to handle all essential functions of its diverse institutions' libraries in Spain. In addition to providing a library services platform to bring CEU libraries together, OCLC will create a single catalog of collections from participating institutions to search through one interface. In total, the platform will cover 20 libraries serving over 96,000 users. CEU is an institution with an extended tradition in education, offering a wide range of studies through a network of educational institutions spread across the Spanish geography at all education levels, from primary and secondary schools to colleges, research institutions, business schools, and four universities in major cities of the Spanish state. "We have learned through years of experience that a collaborative yet autonomous approach while preserving the unique characteristics of each branch, is the most effective organizational structure for our area," said Ascensión Gil Martín, CEU Libraries and Archives Director. "Given the geographical dispersion, number, and diverse needs of the libraries across CEU branches, this model has proven successful.” The selection of WMS reflects CEU's ongoing commitment to innovation and employing the latest technologies to meet the learning and educational needs of its users. Being part of OCLC means connecting to a global network of knowledge and interlibrary collaboration. ⤵️ Click below to read more. #OCLCwms #OCLCnews --- #OCLC #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove

#EngagedLibraries inspire youth. 💡 Working and volunteering both offer many benefits for teens—from gaining important social and leadership skills to finding or expanding on personal interests. Ahead of the summer break from school, the Kansas City Public Library in Missouri hosted a Teen Volunteer and Job Fair focused on those between the ages of 15 and 18. Local businesses and volunteer organizations showcased available opportunities to teens in the community. This event is a great example of how libraries bring people together to create connections and opportunities. 📲 We want to know how your library gets teens involved and helps them find their paths in life. Share your story on social media by including #EngagedLibraries and tagging OCLC in your post. You could be featured in an upcoming issue of Abstracts, on our community engagement hub, in an upcoming blog or video, or across our social media channels. ⤵️ Click below to see photos from Kansas City’s event. --- #OCLC #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove

Join us on 6 June (9:00 a.m. EDT/3:00 p.m. CEST) for the OCLC-LIBER Europe "Building for the future" closing plenary session. Libraries are navigating a complex landscape of emerging technologies and ever-growing quantities of data, impacting library operations, and transforming service offerings. Responding to these changes is critical, and between November 2023 and April 2024, OCLC and LIBER jointly convened three interactive discussion sessions to closely examine the opportunities and responsibilities libraries face in providing state-of-the-art services in this challenging environment. The 75-minute closing plenary session will offer key insights gleaned from these sessions, synthesized from the numerous small group discussions of transcontinental participants from the LIBER and OCLC Research Library Partnership networks. A moderated panel of LIBER representatives will respond to this overview and reflect upon how these discussions can help research libraries collaboratively plan in these challenging times. ⤵️ Click below to register for this session and learn more about the series. --- #OCLC #OCLCresearch #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #ResearchLibrary #ResearchLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove

The community-informed Reimagine Descriptive Workflows project and resulting report was an opportunity for OCLC to reflect on our own role in repairing systems and workflows. During the development of OCLC’s linked data ecosystem, the WorldCat ontology, our teams conducted an internal diversity, equity, and inclusion review of the ontology prior to release. #OCLCresearch's Merrilee Proffitt reviews how our teams across the organization came together with library professionals to "dream and enact change." "As a result of this process, OCLC is making improvements to the WorldCat ontology," Merrilee writes. "This effort, working in community to ensure that the WorldCat ontology shifts away from systems and structures that were developed during the nineteenth century, demonstrates that this work is complex, nuanced—and worth undertaking." ⤵️ Click below to read more in this #HangingTogether blog. --- #OCLC #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #AcademicLibrary #AcademicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove
