What does a human rights charter have to do with your teen’s favorite place to hang with friends? Today on Safer Internet Day 2024 and everyday, Discord is helping to create a safer and more positive online environment based on a concept known as “teens rights,” a set of principles that centers on the unique needs of young people. It aims to keep them safe while recognizing that they need opportunities to learn—especially when they make a mistake. It’s why we’ve designed our rules with teens in mind: “Teens are going to be trying things out and figuring out who they are and making mistakes online. Discord is focused on helping to guide them through that process without being overly punitive or cutting them off from their support networks and their friends,” says Laney C., Discord’s senior product policy specialist focused on safety.
