I rarely post to LinkedIn, but today I had the privilege of attending the 3rd Annual Women’s Leadership Conference hosted by Dr. Yolanda Mendez & Newark Public Schools, and had to share about this truly phenomal day. The theme of the event was “Carrying Your Light & Living Well” and we discussed topics such as self-actualization, taking responsibility for our calling, and having the “audacity” to continue the climb to achieve our goals, in spite of life’s defeats. We had the pleasure and honor of getting to hear from, meet & speak with esteemed female leaders who are products of the NBOE. Our keynote speaker, clinical psychologist, author and holistic mental health expert Dr. Mariel Buqué, discussed with us the importance of illuminating the intersection between intergenerational trauma (and resilience) and mental health. The esteemed Judge Victoria Pratt closed the day by reminding us all to be bold enough to be the main characters of our stories. She spoke of the responsibility we all have, of not having the luxury of saying “no” when we are asked and called to step into leadership roles. The day was full of fellowship between colleagues across the district, we shared laughs as well as tears over incredibly powerful stories and insights. We received goodie bags full of intentional gifts, including the written works of our speakers and other bold, influential women. I left the building feeling empowered, inspired and full of gratitude. Extending a huge thank you to the Newark Board of Ed, all of the departments that had a hand in putting this together, and all of our amazing speakers. Grateful to be a part of such an impactful district! #NBOEWLC2024

Congratulations to the families and young people who joined the Newark Public Schools launch event! Alumni Award Holder Gwen Allen shared her inspiring story. Over 100 young people are starting their awards in the district! Newark Public Schools in Newark, New Jersey, in the Tristate (NYC area) are launching the Award in four high schools. This large urban district has over 37,000 students and is known for its innovative approach to high schools tied to skills for the future. The Award helps young people be #worldready and is excited to see the program starting in this community. #partnerships #AwardUSA Newark Early College High School @Newark School of Data and Information Technology @Newark Science Park High School @Newark Technology High School Thanks to Assistant Superintendent Dr. Maria J.
