Earlier this month, the Housing Stability Support Program staff from the Lower East Side and the Bronx, as well as the staff from Thorpe Family Residence came together to begin to develop Nazareth Housing's new and improved financial empowerment curriculum. Working with Deb Mashek - Do Together Better, our facilitator, and utilizing the team's experience working with our community as well as information we got directly directly from our clients via focus groups and surveys, the team started to dream big about what a rigorous and accessible financial empowerment program could look like. We look forward to sharing the results this summer and most importantly enrolling our clients in the program. #FinancialEmpowerment #HomelessnessPrevention

May is Lower East Side History month, and the Lower East Side is where our story began 40 years ago. Nazareth Housing was founded in 1983 by Sister Marion Agnes as part of the urban homesteading movement on the Lower East Side. At that time, 13 abandoned buildings were rehabilitated to create safe and secure housing for vulnerable community residents. Nazareth Housing developed services of outreach, advocacy, and community empowerment to prevent homelessness. We continue to honor Sister Marion Agnes' commitment to service by helping families to unlock their potential, build pathways out of poverty, and avoid homelessness. #LowerEastSideHistoryMonth #HomelessnessPrevention

Last night’s Annual Benefit was a huge success – thanks to you, our Nazareth Housing community! We raised more than $400,000 (!!) to support our programs and help the people we serve unlock their potential, build pathways out of poverty, and avoid homelessness. Two hundred guests joined us for the special event and helped us celebrate the amazing work being done in our community as well as honor Aaron Marcu and The Breukelein Institute (Community Service Recipient) for their continued support of Nazareth Housing. 🔗 There is still time to make an impact. Each gift, no matter how big or small, is appreciated and allows us to meet the immediate needs of our clients and provide them with the tools and resources to build a solid financial foundation. Visit https://lnkd.in/eNztEG39 to make a gift today.

Less than two weeks until our Annual Benefit! This year, we are honoring Aaron Marcu and The Breukelein Institute (Community Service Recipient). Aaron and his wife, Mary Lu Bilek, have been supporting Nazareth Housing for 26 years and through their generosity, we have been able to serve thousands of New Yorkers. Since 2000, The Breukelein Institute has had a special and ongoing relationship with Nazareth Housing. Because of its generous and dedicated friends who have given to and worked with both the Institute and Nazareth, a half a million dollars has been donated through the Breukelein Institute to assist Nazareth’s special achievements…..and counting! Join us for the special event and help us celebrate the amazing work being done in our community. Register and learn more about our honorees at https://lnkd.in/efBrZnzY

We had such a special time celebrating our Louise’s Pantry Bronx volunteers yesterday and can’t wait to celebrate our Louise’s Pantry Lower East Side volunteers later this month. When we say we couldn’t do it without them, we really mean it. Their combined 10,000 hours of volunteer time at both pantry locations per year helps us keep our pantry doors open, ensuring our clients have access to their immediate needs. Whether it’s raining, snowing, or sunny, our pantry volunteers continue to show up for our community and we are so appreciative. 💙 #VolunteerRecognitionMonth #volunteer #nycpantry #homelessnessprevention #foodinsecurity

A big THANK YOU to our amazing Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers who helped make this tax season such a success for our clients. 💙 Our free VITA prep site offered a safe haven for our clients to be part of and understand the tax filing process - and ultimately gain the knowledge to build long-term financial security. This work is a perfect complement to our homelessness prevention work and is a great way to connect the people in our community to the rest of the services offered at Nazareth Housing. #TaxSeason #FinancialEmpowerment #volunteerrecognitionmonth2024
