She has a broad range of responsibilities, from recruitment, onboarding, and employee development to benefits administration and helping run our Summer Intern program. We asked Lyndsey why she decided to work at Lionakis, she said "When I started at Lionakis 8.5 years ago, I was a new mom looking for flexibility, stability, and future growth opportunities. Lionakis's long history was impressive, and the HR team felt like a great fit for me." Swipe to see what her favorite thing about working at Lionakis is!

Our education and business development studios toured the construction progress at Katherine Johnson Middle School. The project consists of a new single-story, campus-style middle school on the existing site of the former Creekside Elementary School. The building program is for approximately 650 students on 9.75 acres. This school is the sister to Arcade Middle School and utilizes the same design but with customized exterior color palettes and interior finishes to show the unique identities of each school.

Continuing on with Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, today we honor Gin Wong. Wong played a significant role in creating some of Los Angeles' greatest modern structures, including design direction for the Los Angeles International Airport, CBS Television City, and the Union Oil Center. He also served as president of the University of Southern California's School of Architecture’s Architectural Guild.

Through SRBX’s CIEF (Construction Industry Education Foundation), Claire Seger, an architect in our education studio, helped judge high school designs and drawings while they were on the final day of a Design Build event. The students learn design principles, drawing standards, and run through a mock RFP process in the fall. Then, in the spring semester, students get to do the 'build' portion of the industry with this Design Build program and event. The students have two full days to build their projects. All materials are donated from sponsor partners, and many seniors receive scholarships to pursue careers in the industry. Students are judged by professionals on safety, construction, design, and drawing standards.

Recently some members from our Education studio visited Elk Grove High School as part of the modernization project we are designing. They got to see the progress on Building A which will be the home for administration and 22 classrooms. Building A is the third phase of this project, the construction has been progressing fast. Many of the elements are precut, manufactured and shipped in with the classroom number and a QR code which helps organize to site and keeps it clean. Next up for Elk Grove High School is a new quad that will open up the area as a courtyard between Building C and A.

May is National Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month! In 2024, the Lionakis Foundation is supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which was nominated by one of our structural engineers, Jon McCall. Through the Lionakis Foundation, Lionakis team members can nominate charities to receive monetary donations and present at Lunch & Learns for our staff. Jon shared that he nominated the CF Foundation because, "The CF Foundation is a cause that's near to my heart - at 2 weeks old my daughter was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Over the last 4 years her health has benefitted greatly from medications that are available to her because of the work the CF Foundation is doing to fund research. There is a still a portion of the CF population that doesn't have access to these same medications because of their specific genetic mutations. We support the CF foundation with the hope that one day everyone with CF can have the same outlook that my wife and I have for our daughter." If you're interested in learning more about the CF Foundation, please visit their website at https://www.cff.org/ #cysticfibrosismonth
