Business expansion and site selection activity has slowed down. The race to attract and develop talent continues to heat up. And communities and educational institutions have a strong appetite to understand the skills of the future. Those are my big takeaways from two amazing days at the C2ER: Council for Community and Economic Research conference in Norfolk, VA. It was a delight to present on building a #futurereadyworkforce during the first day lunch keynote and see many old friends and partners. Thank you, Erol Yildirim Ken Poole Spencer Abrams and the full C2ER and CREC team. Special thanks to Allison Forbes for the kind introduction to my keynote. C2ER brings together the best and brightest labor market and economic development researchers in the US, and it's humbling and inspiring to hear how critical Lightcast's data and tools are to many of their work. Bonus takeaway: It was fantastic to see and meet so many first-time attendees, including Adam Leonard Earl Henthorn and Matt Shimp!

"We use Lightcast data to give us the information we need on the labor market. What’s happening nationally for trends, as well as what’s happening on a regional level." - Annette Vickers, Market Researcher, ARM Institute The ARM Institute was founded in 2017 through Carnegie Mellon University winning the bid to create a robotics-focused Manufacturing USA Institute. Now, as a separate non-profit, they exist to strengthen U.S. manufacturing through innovations in advanced manufacturing technology, particularly robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence (AI)— preparing the human workforce to thrive alongside these technologies. We're proud that ARM Institute uses our data to help the United States build a #futurereadyworkforce in conjunction with emerging tech. #robotics #automation #ai #artificialintelligence

If skills-based hiring has reached the top flight of employers, then it’s here to stay everywhere else, too. Some of the world’s biggest consulting firms are “pivoting from pedigree to potential,” and emphasizing that “We hire people, not degrees,” the New York Times reports this week. Those are roles where a degree has traditionally gone further than a candidate’s skillset—so why the change? What’s the advantage of skills? Today’s edition of On The Job breaks it down. The short answer? Skills enable future-readiness, increase diversity and opportunity, improve retention, and create clarity at every level of the labor market. #skills #skillsbasedhiring #talentstrategy #peopleanalytics #talentintelligence #workforceplanning #newsletter #weareLightcast
