This week we kicked off our 2024 summer internship! We are so thrilled to welcome almost 600 interns to #lifeatkohls throughout our Stores, DC/EFC, Corporate, Remote (Tech-only), NYDO, and San Ramon locations. We’ve already had the opportunity to meet so many interns who are ambitious, creative, determined, and most importantly, our future leaders. We are beyond excited for the next 8 to 10 weeks and are so proud to be the employer you’ve chosen to spend your summer with. Thank you to all of our partners who helped bring together this program. Pride Month is officially here! As we use this month to embrace love in all forms, let’s celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and create more spaces for people to live out loud. Kohl's has a long history of supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, and it’s important for our associates to feel valued and respected, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. I am grateful to all the members of Kohl’s Pride Business Resource Group (BRG), who play an integral role in this. Our Pride BRG supports our LGBTQIA+ associates and is an invaluable part of our welcoming and inclusive culture. Over the next few weeks, two of their members, Paulina Garcia Morones and Matt McFall, will share their thoughts on Pride and how LGBTQIA+ allies can support their community all year long. The numbers are staggering – 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year, and 1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year. We need to make time and space to have open and honest discussions about mental health to help break down barriers and expand access to timely and effective care for all. I recently sat down with Dan Gillison, CEO of NAMI, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization and one of Kohl’s national philanthropic partners, to talk more about the stigma around mental health and the impact of generational health struggles, specifically within our BIPOC communities. Dan, you are an incredible leader, champion of mental health, and an all-around amazing human being – I am so grateful to have had this conversation with you. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we support our associates and their families with a variety of resources year-round. This includes access to live and virtual counseling sessions, educational training to foster an inclusive culture, and additional tools and resources through our partners at NAMI that help guide individuals on their mental health journey. Kohl’s associate, Meghan Garay, who works in our San Antonio Credit Center, shared her story with us, reaffirming that continued support is so important. Meghan has been open about her mental health journey and has utilized our free counseling services, flexible work environment, and life solutions program. “In 2021, I was diagnosed with an array of life-altering medical conditions. Along the road of multiple surgeries, in 2022, I lost my dad, only adding to the struggles I was already facing for self-improvement. Taking advantage of benefits provided by Kohl's, I received an official diagnosis, in 2023, of anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder," Meghan shared. "Through the incredible support of my supervisors and our life solutions specialist, I was able to get the help I needed to get through these life hurdles. In my past jobs, I felt like I was just an unseen number. Kohl's has drastically changed my perspective on that, as they have unwaveringly been with me every step of the way in my journey to a healthier life.” Taking care of associates is an important part of what we do. It’s an honor and privilege to be a mom and to know so many amazing mothers here at Kohl's — mother figures, nontraditional, adoptive, or those pursuing motherhood. With programs for those entering motherhood through pregnancy, adoption, or surrogacy, and childcare support and flexible schedules when they return from leave, we support motherhood in all forms. Associate Jenna Huseboe, senior manager of merchandising operations, plans to take advantage of our doula reimbursement for her second child's birth and postpartum care - due this summer. “A lot of us don’t have family around to help, so having that support both during and after childbirth is crucial. Having an employer that gives benefit options like that is amazing.” I’m proud to be part of an organization that supports the health and well-being of working moms of all kinds, no matter what journey they’re on.
