Today, I'd like to introduce our second Outsmarting A.I. Recruiting Systems panelist, Jenny Zhao. Jenny(she/her) is the Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at HootRecruit, a software startup that automates candidate sourcing and outreach for recruiters and hiring managers. She is currently an Ambassador Board Member of the Nashville Technology Council, a co-organizer of the Nashville Product Meetup group, and founder and chapter co-lead of the Nashville Women in Product group. Prior to HootRecruit, she was Head of Product of Digital Services at Asurion responsible for helping customers enjoy, protect, and secure their digital content and digital lives through Asurion’s cloud storage and digital security products. She also previously led products ranging from an enterprise sales platform to a bespoke digital recruiting experience for hiring 1099 workers remotely across the US. Prior to product management, she worked in various leadership roles in operations, recruiting, and sales, building high performing teams in high growth markets across the US. She was also once pre-med and holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of California, Los Angeles. Work aside, she loves mentoring others, traveling the world, trying new restaurants, and spending time with her husband and dog/fur-child, Ruthie. Thrilled to announce that IQRecruit has rebranded as HootRecruit! Coming up with a new company name and brand can be both fun and challenging.  What do you want your new brand to reflect?  Our team met recently to identify the attributes that we felt best represented who we are.  We then came up with some potential names and logos that reflected those attributes.  Ideas spanned from the serious to the hilarious, and everything in between. Introducing HootRecruit as our new name and an owl for our logo 😀 .  Owls have keen sight and a full 360-degree view of things.  A perfect brand for our AI-powered talent sourcing platform! Thanks so much to David Windley, Jenny Zhao, John Beck, and Logan Serman for working together on this!

Introducing... HootRecruit (formerly IQRecruit)! 🦉 A little over one year ago, we spun out of our previous company as IQRecruit. After much brainstorming, bad puns, soul searching, and actual searching (there are surprisingly few original business names left in the world), we landed on the HootRecruit name and the owl logo for several reasons. Highlighting three of them: 1. Owls have superb vision and hearing, which let them observe their surroundings with precision. This unfair advantage enables them to efficiently hunt and thrive in diverse habitats. Similarly, HootRecruit is a Recruiter's unfair advantage, helping them uncover and pinpoint great candidates that get missed in traditional recruiting processes. 2. The eyes and wings of our logo double as two people figures facing each other. While leveraging AI is a central part of our strategy, this is a reminder that humans are always at the center of why we do what we do. For us, AI is not a standalone solution; rather, a means in which to help people do their jobs better. 3. I like things that rhyme. Last month, the team at IQRecruit gathered in person for our 2024 kickoff. As an early stage startup, it was energizing to get out of the execution weeds and take a step back to ensure we’re executing the right thing. Even though our company is less than a year old, we’ve learned so much about who our customers are, the market, our hypotheses, and ourselves. After reflecting on what we’ve learned this year and where we want to go next, we came out of our time together with: 🔃 a revised mission 🎯 a revised and more focused ICP 💪 more gusto that our unique value proposition is the right formula for helping our customers find great talent 🥅 OKRs for 2024 🌟 a new company name!!! While I’m super excited about the new company name and brand identity (more to come later), I’m actually EQUALLY excited about revising our mission, vision, and crafting tangible goals for this year as a team. I wish more people would talk about how they get things wrong in order to get it right. Companies should inherently evolve. And early stage companies, in particular, learn SO MUCH in their first few months that it would be crazy if these foundations weren't intentionally revisited and updated as new information comes in. It took a lot of convincing and support around me to pursue a startup, and since then, I’ve had a lot of people approach me about doing the same. This reflection has helped me realize you don’t have to get it right to get started. In fact, you WON’T get it right when you start. Product management 101 is to fall in love with the problem, not the solution. And if these past few months have taught me anything—it’s to objectively validate the problem, humbly test your solutions, and never stop learning from customers. Oh, and to continue helping recruiters connect with the right talent, because it’s harder than people give them credit for. #startup #startuplife #product #recruiting
