Today at Computex, we’re unveiling the next phase of our Covert Protocol technical collaboration with NVIDIA, with a hybrid deployment that brings NVIDIA Riva Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) and NVIDIA Audio2Face on-device for an even faster player experience and economical deployment costs. During GDC 2024, we worked with NVIDIA to develop Covert Protocol, a demo that unlocks social simulation game mechanics using Inworld’s AI agents. We’re excited about the future of on-device generative AI. How do you measure and benchmark LLM conversational realism for video games and entertainment use cases? Recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have allowed developers to create remarkably human-like AI agents that can populate video games and other digital worlds. However, existing LLM benchmarks, because they were developed for very different use cases, weren’t able to properly evaluate conversational quality in these entertainment-focused use cases.  So, we created our own benchmarks. Over the last few months, we’ve been working on making significant improvements to Inworld AI’s voice offering. These voices offer expressiveness and realism through improved latency, rhythm, intonation, pitch variation, and natural pausing. 📢 By popular demand, these voices are now available in a standalone text-to-speech API for creative, corporate, and gaming use cases. We're gathering feedback from developers, so early users can access the API for free. Dig into the research, training, and hear the new voices for yourself at https://inworld.ai/voice 📢 Our AI models are among the best options for creators looking for expressive, cost-efficient, and high-quality voices. Some highlights from our technical team Igor Poletaev Alex Huang Yufei Feng Robert Villahermosa and Feifan Fan: 🏗️ New architecture: By implementing a lightweight diffusion-based TTS architecture with curated data, this model allowed us to strike a balance between quality and latency. 🫧 Data cleaning: The data we used to train these voices came from Creative Commons licensed datasets, specifically LibriTTS-R, SLR83, and Hifi-TTS. We also licensed audio, recorded specifically for our platform by professional voice actors, to enhance the pitch, pace, and emotional range of our model. Using ML classifiers and human annotation, we implemented a thorough cleaning pipeline that removed flawed samples for higher quality throughput. ⚗️Model distillation: We used a larger TTS model to augment the expressiveness of our voices. We generated audio with patterns not found in the training data, emphasizing text that results in expressive, dialogue-like speech.
