CMMC compliance is on the horizon, and now's the time to ensure you're prepared! Partnering with the right MSP can make all the difference and there are a few key things to look out for when choosing your compliance partner: 1. RPO Status with Cyber-AB: Make sure your MSP is a Registered Provider Organization (RPO) with the Cyber-AB. This ensures they are recognized and vetted to help you navigate the CMMC requirements effectively. 2. Certification Plans: Verify that your MSP is planning to get their own CMMC certification. This shows their commitment to meeting the same standards they are helping you achieve. 3. Comprehensive Services: Look for an MSP that offers a full range of services, including basic IT helpdesk, cybersecurity, and compliance services tailored to meet DFARS 7012, NIST 800-171 r2, and CMMC 2.0 Level 2 requirements. 4. Special Projects Expertise: Ensure they can handle special projects like migrating to Microsoft GCC High and other critical infrastructure changes. At IsI, our MSP division was specifically designed around compliance. From tool selection to policy creation, nothing was put in place without first evaluating its importance on CMMC status. NIST SP 800-171 Rev 3: Compliance Update or Wake-Up Call? The release of NIST SP 800-171 Rev 3 last week has many compliance professionals buzzing. It's great to see updated security requirements for protecting Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). But let's face it, for many DoD contractors, this might feel like another hurdle on the compliance path. Here's the not-so-secret secret: According to Merrill Research, an estimated 87% of DoD contractors are not yet fully compliant with the security controls outlined in the previous version of NIST 800-171. While staying updated on the latest requirements is crucial, this statistic highlights a bigger challenge – the gap between policy and implementation. Instead of just focusing on the "what's new" in Rev 3, let's use it as an opportunity to recommit to achieving compliance with the existing controls. Remember, strong cybersecurity practices are essential not just for compliance, but for protecting sensitive information, and the nation as a whole. As technology and threats evolve, we can expect further changes to cybersecurity frameworks. By prioritizing a proactive approach to information security, DoD contractors can be better prepared not only for NIST SP 800-171 Rev 3, but also for the upcoming finalization of CMMC 2.0.
