Yet, the true power of data is unlocked only when it’s woven into a broader narrative. At Imagine If, we champion a culture where data serves as a foundation—not just for decision-making—but for storytelling and strategic thinking. This comes from Susan Petoyan's obsession with zooming out and looking at the big picture (regardless of the type of project!) Why does this matter? Because data alone doesn't drive change. PEOPLE DO. And people respond to stories that resonate, that clarify complexities, and that illuminate paths forward. For every project's storytelling and strategy recommendations, one of our steps is the "Fishbowl Spread" where we zoom out and look for the macro and meta insights, including for qualitative projects. We do this, because it's in our DNA, but also because of our passion for stories, strategies and impact. And because our clients are too busy for this many slides.     Is it Biased or BS data? Maybe both. As a data and insights pro, I see this all the time. Execs are often only shown data that nicely supports, confirms, or validates their perspectives and all the other data is left out. Because it's inconvenient, challenging, conflicting, or even... upsetting to the execs. And yet in that dismissed or hidden data is where the real #truth is often found. IF you're a #marketresearch or #data pro in an environment that does not tolerate challenging senior management views (when necessary) beyond this "nice but BS data", then ask yourself: - Would new skills or visualization technology help you promote a bolder stance with hard truths? - What about external partners who have less skin in the game and don't mind the risk of telling the hardest of truths? And if you're an executive where you do not see any disagreeing or challenging data from your insights group or insights partners, then you're making bullshit-based decisions that introduce risk in your business. Ask yourself why that is. And look for ways to further empower your insights team to show you the full picture, including the not-so-nice parts of the data. #imagineifinsights
