🌟 New Report Alert! 🌟 We are thrilled to announce the release of a research report in partnership with the National Low Income Housing Coalition. The report, titled “The National Risk Index and Racial Equity for Renters,” examines whether FEMA's National Risk Index (NRI) reflects known disparities in natural hazard risk for renters of color. 📊 Key Finding: The report highlights that the NRI may insufficiently capture racial and ethnic disparities in natural hazard risk when used to compare natural hazard risks within states, particularly for Black and Hispanic renters. This could influence how hazard mitigation resources are allocated, as the #NRI is used to guide federal funding decisions for several programs, such as FEMA’s Community Disaster Resilience Zones (CDRZs). With natural hazards disproportionately impacting communities of color, this report sheds light on a critical issue: the risk of perpetuating inequities using current assessment tools.
