Clark is proud to announce that the Associated General Contractors of America has selected the The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center at 555 Pennsylvania Avenue as the winner of a 2024 Construction Risk Partners Build America Merit Award! The complex, multi-faceted conversion of the former Newseum site created Johns Hopkins University’s new home in Washington, D.C., supporting the school's business, public policy, and international studies graduate programs. The former museum space underwent a complete structural and programmatic redesign. Over half of four floors were removed and replaced with new structural floors and a floating cantilevered classroom above a pedestrian bridge, and major structural and architectural alterations were introduced to provide more natural sunlight in the building’s façade. The state-of-the-art facility now boasts 435,000 square feet of academic, meeting and gathering space, including 38 high-tech classrooms, a 375-seat theatre, numerous areas of group and individual study space, lounges, conference space, media suites, and several roof terraces with stunning views of the Capitol. The first Wednesday in May is National Skilled Trades Day. The skilled trades community holds the country together. At JCM we would like to take a moment to say thank you to our highly skilled tradesmen. Without the men and women who learn and become experts in skilled trades we would not have clean water, lights, buildings to work and live in, and many other daily benefits. We so often forget that everywhere we go there is evidence of someone who was skilled at a trade that built the infrastructure and enabled us to enjoy that aspect of life. Plumbers, Welders, Fitters, Electricians, Masons, Sheetmetal Mechanics, Fabrication Specialists, and many others are the backbone of this great country and we owe much of what we enjoy every day to them. A few of the JCM crew are taking a break to catch a glimpse of the 2024 Solar Eclipse. It is about 87% partial eclipse from here in Maryland and should peak around 3:20PM. Learn more about it from NASA and remember, Except during the brief total phase of a total solar eclipse, when the Moon completely blocks the Sun’s bright face, it is not safe to look directly at the Sun without specialized eye protection for solar viewing.
