Hampton Roads Transit has just received 32 brand-new GILLIG Low Floor buses, with more arriving weekly. These new GILLIG buses, including both 35-foot and 40-foot models, are enhancing routes across Hampton Roads, offering increased comfort and safety for passengers while reducing maintenance costs. The Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) board has approved the purchase of 11 brand-new, 35-foot GILLIG Battery Electric Buses. These are TARTA’s first full-size electric vehicles, set to be delivered by late 2025. With the support of state and federal grants, including $9 million in federal funds, these buses will feature 29 full-time seats, plus additional seating that are convertible for wheelchairs, enhancing accessibility and comfort. TARTA is also preparing the necessary charging infrastructure to ensure these buses are ready to hit the road as soon as they arrive. This order marks a significant step towards TARTA's goal of zero emissions by 2037.
