Apple announced Monday that OpenAI’s ChatGPT would be integrated into its technology—and Elon Musk wasted no time battening down the hatches against the rival technology. bit.ly/3x1yfko Musk is developing his own artificial intelligence models at EV maker Tesla and startup xAI. But not only is ChatGPT a competitor to Musk’s own offerings, the entrepreneur also has an acrimonious history with the Sam Altman-led company. Musk aired his concerns about the partnership on his social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter. “If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies,” he wrote. “That is an unacceptable security violation. And visitors will have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be stored in a Faraday cage.”

Since becoming CEO in early 2022, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks’ biggest move has involved radically shrinking the business to better reset it for growth. How? By focusing on what it does best: making toys and games. Last year, Hasbro sold its eOne television and movie business to Lionsgate for about $500 million, a steep drop from the $4 billion that Hasbro paid only four years earlier. For Hasbro, best known for brands like Play-Doh, Monopoly, and My Little Pony, the original rationale for the deal was to evolve into a media contender, combining the indie studio’s film and TV unit with its own. However, film and TV production is expensive, and the deal hurt Hasbro’s financial results. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ehTkUuc4

After ousting BP CEO Bernard Looney after failing to disclose personal relationships at work, the $100 billion oil giant isn’t taking another chance on its lovestruck managers. In an email circulated to staff last week, BP told employees they were now required to disclose all “familial and intimate relationships at work” or face following Looney out the door, Reuters first reported. To avoid an embarrassing repeat of the Looney situation, BP has also updated its code of conduct, which “prohibits employees from directly or indirectly managing relatives or those with whom they’re in an intimate relationship.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eYtsqZjq

After Apple announced that OpenAI’s ChatGPT would be integrated into its technology, Tesla CEO Elon Musk wasted no time battening down the hatches against the rival technology. Musk is developing his own artificial intelligence models at EV maker Tesla and startup xAI; the latter has already released a large language model named Grok. But not only is ChatGPT a competitor to Musk’s own offerings, the entrepreneur also has an acrimonious history with the Sam Altman–led company. Musk was one of the earliest backers of the AI company and served as one of its first cochairs (alongside Altman) when it launched. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eKJutmcQ

Ikea’s workers were quitting in droves in the U.S. In the UK and Ireland, half of all new hires were leaving before their first anniversary. Globally, each departure cost Ikea $5,000 or more to replace. To stem the bleeding, the Swedish furniture behemoth needed to figure out what was making its store workers so unhappy — and fix it fast. By 2022, more than 62,000 employees were departing a year for various reasons, equating to about a third of its workforce, and the pandemic-era labor shortage made it difficult to replenish its ranks. Workers “suddenly became very scarce,” said Jon Abrahamsson Ring, chief executive officer of Inter Ikea Group. So Ikea focused on things that many businesses talk about doing but struggle to actually implement: Boosting pay, increasing flexibility for frontline employees and using emerging technologies to make things easier on workers and their customers.
