A non-profit organization dedicated to relieving hunger and food insecurity in metro Detroit.

About us

Forgotten Harvest was formed in 1990 to fight two problems: hunger and waste. Forgotten Harvest “rescued” and distributed 40 million pounds of food last year by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from 800 sources, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered free-of-charge to more than 200 emergency food providers in the Metro Detroit area. ✨REPOST from Broner Hat & Glove✨ We are proud to partner with @forgottenharvest Farms in Fenton by making a donation of 800+ hats. The forecast in Michigan is heating up and these big brim hats will provide sun protection for the dedicated crew of volunteers who help harvest crops to be donated to those in need in our community. Thank you to Jonny from Forgotten Harvest for coming to Auburn Hills to pick up the hats and a huge Thank You to @forgottenharvest for all the incredible work you do to help alleviate hunger in our area. We are happy that we could help out in a very small way! #bronerhats #forgottenharvest #helpingothers #community #sunprotection

Last week, our team had the incredible opportunity to volunteer with Forgotten Harvest. We helped pack emergency food boxes and re-packed and sorted fresh, nutritious food for distribution throughout Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. We are so thankful for organizations like Forgotten Harvest and are already looking forward to the next time we can volunteer and make a difference in our community! #AncorAutomotive #CommunityService #Volunteer #GivingBack

It’s always a pleasure to spend time with our fantastic Bank of America teammates from various lines of business in Michigan and come together to give back to our community. Today, we dedicated part of our day to Forgotten Harvest, a remarkable organization committed to helping those in need. Thanks to everyone that came out today! Special thank you to our Chicago/Micigan Regional Team Brian Stanton and Jennifer Cooley for dedicating time to be part of today!

    Branch Administrator at Oswald Companies

I learned a new word today: "Dunnage." That's the term for all the materials used to pack and ship products, including food. Serving alongside my Oswald Companies' coworkers at Forgotten Harvest, I discovered what goes on behind the scenes at the very end of the grocery line. Fortunately, Forgotten Harvest salvages so much perfectly fine food and distributes it to those who might otherwise go hungry. What doesn't make the cut ends up with the "dunnage." Who knew it would be so fun--and stress relieving--to chuck stuff into a giant garbage compactor? We also got to load up the baler (also known by our nontechnical term as the "smusher.") Even though we weren't at the "fun end" of the food redistribution process, we felt a strong sense of accomplishment. Slow and a little awkward at first, we were chucking stuff and hauling pallets like a pro by our shift's end! #communitycommitment #endhunger

Corporate Social Impact | Lineage | Experienced leader in CSR strategies and non-profit management

Today, 25 of Lineage's Summer Interns used their #timeforgood volunteering at Forgotten Harvest with our Intern Buddies and Leaders. Food bank volunteering might not always be the sexiest, but this is an important reminder that many of our food bank partners depend on volunteers daily to ensure that families have access to food. A very special thank you to one of our Southeast Michigan Champions, Susanne Tschiltsch for not only team leading today, but for always being first to lend a hand and help out!
