Our goal is for Filecoin to become the preeminent platform for decentralized storage and data services. A tall task, but Filecoin Foundation is focusing on seven key initiatives to help us get there: 1. Build user-friendly storage applications and developer tools: Storage applications, backup solutions, and developer tools. 2. Build hot storage solutions: Unlock fast, cache-level storage of temporary data. 3. Build more data-preserving applications: Leverage Filecoin's unique capabilities for industries like healthcare, scientific research, legal/property records, and more. 4. Build data feeds and real-time verification. 5. Promote enterprise adoption: Reach out to companies (media, genomics firms, game development) that deal with large amounts of data. 6. Explore high-profile integrations: Turn users into advocates for the technology and create a halo effect on the network. 7. Lean into emerging narratives: Weave Filecoin in with other emerging tech narratives like decentralized compute, DePIN, gaming, AI, DataDAOs, and more. We’re already hard at work making all of these a reality.

The Filecoin Network had a record-setting year. We’re setting our sights further. Here’s how we’ll continue pushing the ecosystem forward in 2024 and beyond: Growing the storage-client pipeline: A healthy pipeline makes Filecoin more robust, resilient, and attractive for clients seeking battle-tested decentralized storage. More onchain activity: Paid block space is a sign of user adoption and activity. Network usability (tracked via network data), deal renewals (the more the better), and smart contracts (making cross-chain Filecoin use easier) all demonstrate Filecoin’s health and utility. Proving Filecoin’s value-add: Filecoin can be an indispensable tool for all big-data companies looking for robust, secure, and low-cost data storage (in case it wasn’t obvious). We’re especially excited by AI development. Filecoin complements emerging compute protocols, can be deeply embedded within new L2 architectures, and could be the default storage option for AI tools and marketplaces. DePIN and compute networks (and everyone else) should build on and build with Filecoin.

Big Win for NFT.Storage: Celebrating Our Filecoin Retroactive Public Goods Funding Success! 🎉 Exciting news from the NFT.Storage team! We have been awarded 1,744 FIL (~$10,272.16 USD) from the Filecoin Retroactive Public Goods Funding (RPGF). This acknowledgment not only celebrates our past achievements but also highlights our robust contributions to the web3 ecosystem. Our Key Contributions: 1) Uploading off-chain NFT Data: We've enabled NFT creators and platforms to upload unlimited off-chain data seamlessly using our web app, desktop app, or directly through integrations with minting platforms. After upload, data is content addressed via IPFS, made accessible for retrieval through the NFT.Storage Gateway and securely stored in long-term decentralized storage in the Filecoin Network. 2) Retrieving NFT Data: Our NFT.Storage Gateway has become a benchmark in performance and reliability, allowing marketplaces, wallets, and creators to retrieve off-chain data without restrictions. 3) Educational Initiatives: We have expanded our educational outreach to notable institutions like the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), teaching the benefits and methods of decentralized storage for digital collections. 4) Preservation of NFT Collections: Initiatives like Pob Studio’s “Preserve” project have utilized our platform to ensure the enduring preservation of digital assets that might otherwise be at risk of disappearing. 5) Retroactive Public Goods Funding supports projects that have proven their worth by providing long-term value to the community.
