💚 Exciting news! The Rim Restaurant at Volcano House is now a Level 1 Certified Green Restaurant® through the Green Restaurant Association! This certification reflects our dedication to sustainability at Volcano House, through eliminating polystyrene foam, implementing recycling and composting, and reducing our contribution to the nearly 300 million tons of restaurant waste created worldwide. We would like to extend a special thanks to Rob Henderson, as well as Hans and Esme Peterson, for their efforts towards making this possible! We're proud to be Green Seal certified at five locations: Muir Woods Trading Company, The Rim Village Cafe at Crater Lake, The Crater Lake Lodge Dining Room, and Annie Creek Restaurant. We're also pursuing certifications at Carlsbad Caverns Trading Cafe, Green River Grill at Mammoth Cave, Spelunker's Cafe at Mammoth Cave, and Jordan Pond House. As concessionaires, we're committed to keeping the parks we operate in green. Here's to many more sustainability milestones! 🥂 Learn more about our Green practices at Volcano House here: https://lnkd.in/gewvPa9u #DineGreen #Sustainability #greenrestaurantassociation #EcoFriendlyDining

Kīlauea volcano is erupting. A new eruption began at approximately 12:30 a.m. HST on Monday, June 3, likely about a mile (1-2 km) south of Kīlauea caldera and north of the Koa'e fault system and Hilina Pali Road, within Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.

Last week, a group of our fearless ExplorUS leaders made the trek to Crater Lake National Park to help get things ready for our very first season! We couldn't be more excited to get started, and we are even more grateful for the opportunity to operate within this remarkable natural wonder. We would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who lent us a hand and left their sites in these past few weeks to get things going- we know this is a busy time of year for everyone, so your help is extra appreciated! As always, we would also like to thank our friends and partners at NPS- without you all, none of this would be possible. We look forward to working with all of you to make this season a wonderful one for all who visit Crater Lake. Here's to a great start to the season! We can’t believe it, but today is the 9th and final day of #NationalParkWeek ! We’ve had a lot of fun highlighting some of our operations within the National Park system- stay tuned for more info about those, as well as our State Park, National Forest, and Municipal operations! To close out our 9-day celebration, we will be highlighting our operations at Petrified Forest National Park, in Northeastern Arizona! First and foremost, this park is nothing to be afraid of. Named for its vast deposits of petrified wood from ancient forests, Petrified Forest National Park is a place where history, geology, and natural beauty converge. The petrified wood, dating back over 200 million years, is the result of ancient trees that transformed into stone through mineralization. The vibrant colors and intricate patterns in the petrified logs are truly awe-inspiring and provide a unique glimpse into the distant past. Beyond the petrified wood, the park offers an array of experiences. The Painted Desert, with its striking layers of sedimentary rock, is a visual masterpiece that changes with the light throughout the day. As you explore the park, you'll also encounter petroglyphs, ancient ruins, and archaeological sites that tell the stories of the people who lived here long before it became a national park. We are proud to offer a variety of services within the park to enhance the guest experience, including gift shops, a diner (we highly recommend their Navajo Taco!), grab & go offerings, ice cream (a necessity in the Arizona heat), a gas station, and a convenience store! To close out this special week, we would like to again thank our partners at the National Park Service. We are incredibly lucky to be able to do what we do every day- and it wouldn’t be possible without you all. Here’s to a great start to the season!
