EMPath's 200-Year Anniversary Gala was an incredible night celebrating our rich history of empowering women and strengthening families in Boston & beyond! The event was electric with energy – full of storytelling, dancing, and delicious food from Boston's top female chefs. EMPath President & CEO Kim Janey presented our EMPower Award to a trio of trailblazers: Mayor of Boston Michelle Wu, entrepreneur Shellee Mendes, and philanthropist Sandy Edgerley. The amazing Latoyia Edwards, Emmy Award-winning anchor at NBC10 Boston, served as our emcee for the night. At the gala, EMPath recognized the generosity of the Phyllis & Jerome Lyle Rappaport Foundation, which has given a $1 million challenge grant to EMPath in support of AMP Up, our three-year transformative economic mobility coaching program and study in partnership with Boston & Cambridge Housing Authorities. A BIG thank you to our sponsors for their support: Sandy and Paul Edgerley, The 'Quin House, Suffolk Construction, PwC, New England Patriots Foundation, Deloitte, Eastern Bank, Citizens, State Street, OneDigital, Point32Health, United Way of Massachusetts Bay, and Rhino Capital Advisors. Historic first woman Mayor, first Black Mayor of Boston. Ceiling Smasher. Justice Seeker. Change Maker. Joy Curator. #55 #HerStory
Michelle Wu made history as the first woman of color to lead the Boston City Council and again as the first person of color and woman elected as Mayor. I had the pleasure of working with her on a number of issues including voc-tech education, equitable procurement, or public transit and I was thrilled to see her continue and expand fare-free transit that I launched when I led Boston as Mayor. And I’m proud to recognize her at Economic Mobility Pathways - EMPath’s bicentennial gala on Thursday, June 6th. Please join me in congratulating Mayor Wu! Celebrate with us! https://lnkd.in/djG43B7U

I’m so thrilled to celebrate my barrier-breaking friend, entrepreneur extraordinaire, Shellee Mendes! Shellee is the owner of Salon Monet, which just celebrated 20 years and was recently recognized as one of the top 15 businesses on Newbury Street! Shellee’s inspiring story is one of triumph over trauma and she always uses her platform to support other women. I’m so proud to recognize her at Economic Mobility Pathways - EMPath’s bicentennial gala on Thursday, June 6th. Please join me in congratulating Shellee! Celebrate with us! https://lnkd.in/djG43B7U

This Mother’s Day, thousands of women and their children will not be enjoying a celebratory brunch but will instead be spending their time in a shelter, in a car, or on the street in survival mode because they are unhoused. In an Op-Ed in the Boston Globe, EMPath President & CEO Kim Janey calls for long-term solutions to the shelter crisis that will help families meaningfully move forward and work toward economic prosperity. "When you help a woman advance, you help an entire family and an entire community. We owe it to all moms in the Commonwealth to do better." Read the full piece here: https://lnkd.in/eRuwDhsQ
