Yesterday, DAI’s VP for Environment and Energy, Jette Findsen, presented at the Asia Clean Energy Forum in Manila on Using Emerging Technologies to Deliver More Energy Efficient Buildings, Industries, and Homes. This session covered our experience supporting innovators and their technologies in two cities in Southeast Asia, the conditions necessary for ideas to thrive, and recommendations for how to scale. The theme of this year’s conference – accelerating the clean energy transition and ensuring energy security and affordability – is timely. New Delhi just recorded their hottest day on record. Across the region, industrialization powered by fossil fuels has fed climate change, leading to increased pollution, temperatures, flooding, and natural disasters. So, what is needed to scale innovative solutions? In short: • Crowdsourced, novel ideas • Catalytic funding for pilot demonstrations • An adequate enabling environment (lowering the risk of investment) • Private capital flows "It was encouraging to hear fellow panelists speak about how to design energy efficiency programs that catalyze systems change," said Jette. "The speakers from Asian Development Bank (ADB), International Energy Agency (IEA), and National Renewable Energy Laboratory all noted an increasing interest by national governments in supporting energy efficiency policies and incentives, including in Central Asia, where there is a large potential but historically low interest in efficiency improvements." #DAIClimateFutures #CleanEnergy #EnergyTransition #ACEF2024 Jane Clifford Jeanne Ellis Georgia Iordanescu Walter Weaver Rob Ryan-Silva Ella Hoxha Noemi Danao-Schroeder Kevin Carlucci Aaron Hoagland James Naughton David Morgado Melanie Slade Younkyu Seo Ramola Naik Singru Derina Man and Shivam Gupta

Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay! In Vietnam, USAID’s Sustainable Forest Management Project is promoting the World Health Organization’s Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP-WHO) guidelines to grow and use medicinal plants. This helps protect the environment by promoting the use of organic fertilizers that reduce soil damage and conserving water. Healthy soil acts as an underground carbon sink, locking in greenhouse gases that would otherwise enter the atmosphere, indicating its vital role in reducing the effects of #ClimateChange. It also improves the sustainability of forest use which increases jobs for local people and reduces pressure on forest resources. The project has trained nearly 2,000 people from forest dependent communities on GACP-WHO standards and provided households with more than 200,000 high-quality medicinal plant seedlings, contributing to the livelihoods of 4,000+ people. This is building environment resilience—today and for the future. Moody's Ratings upgraded the Government of Jordan’s credit rating. “This is the first sovereign credit upgrade for Jordan in 21 years,” said Minister of Finance Mohammad Al-Ississ. “It is an international acknowledgment of Jordan’s ambitious reform agenda, which has significantly boosted our economic growth.” The credit rating upgrade was facilitated in part by two DAI projects in Jordan. The USAID Pakistan Regional Economic Integration Activity (PREIA) recently organized the Pakistan-Kazakhstan Trade Opportunities Forum for Women-Owned Businesses in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Featuring a cohort of 26 female entrepreneurs, the event aimed to enhance access and exposure of businesswomen to potential trade opportunities. The initiative enabled attendees to gather market-relevant information, identify potential trade opportunities, and strengthen direct business-to-business and business-to-government linkages with counterparts in Kazakhstan. By fostering dialogue and collaboration between Pakistani and Kazakh business communities, the initiative aimed to promote economic growth, advance gender-inclusive trade practices, and enhance the competitiveness of women-owned enterprises.
