In honor of Wildfire Awareness Month, EBLC member CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer and Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety - IBHS partnered with University of California, Berkeley to administer a wildfire-resilient landscaping contest for UC Berkeley students. The winning contestants all completed home landscape designs that would reduce fire ignition risk while remaining budget-friendly and aesthetic. Very grateful for the opportunity to attend Asian Pacific Fund's Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Summit focusing on mental health. The event was not only inspiring but also highlighted the incredible efforts of non-profit organizations in the mental health sector. So much of what was shared resonated with me, especially speaker Kristina Wong. The Covid era significantly impacted my mental health, and although I had access to the necessary resources, overcoming the cultural stigma to seek help was a personal challenge. Many thanks to CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer for inviting me to this important event and for their commitment to providing mental health resources to all employees.
Yesterday, the Asian Pacific Fund hosted our 2024 Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Summit on Reclaiming and Redefining Mental Health, and we had an incredible turnout, with nearly 180 registrants across multiple sectors - community, corporations, government, philanthropy, and media. The Summit engaged the passionate and dedicated individuals and groups committed to uplifting our AANHPI community. It also highlighted the importance of AANHPIs' role in advocating for access and support to mental health resources and creating space for culturally competent services. From insightful panel discussions to inspiring keynote speeches, the Summit was a powerful reminder of our collective strength and the importance of unity. We are grateful to our nonprofit affiliate, the Oakland Asian Cultural Center, and its staff for providing us with the perfect venue to host these discussions. Graduation marks the start of an ongoing pursuit of knowledge rather than its conclusion.
