Is there an association between common blood pressure medications and increased fracture risk among older long-term nursing home residents? That is exactly what researchers set out to determine in this recent study published in JAMA Internal Medicine, which examined 29,648 older VA nursing home residents. The study found that common blood pressure medicines induce sudden dizziness caused by a temporary bout of low blood pressure, making individuals already vulnerable to balance issues even more at risk of serious injury. These findings underscore the need for heightened vigilance and caution when initiating these medications in vulnerable populations. While blood pressure medications are crucial, extra attention and monitoring is vital for this population. Preventing falls can ultimately save lives. 🏠 Health can take a sudden turn for some with little warning, especially seniors and those managing multiple chronic conditions. Where does it often happen? At home. Changes in health commonly occur within the four walls of our homes, making them hard to spot early on. 🔍 But with connected care technology, care teams can keep an eye on patient’s health between office visits. Early signs of decline can often be caught sooner, preventing costly downturns.
