As we close the curtains on RoachFest in Menlo Park, we wanted to take a look back at some of the key themes that resonated throughout the event: ☁️ Resilience: “CockroachDB has given me personally the liberty to not worry about our most critical database going down due to some random hardware failure.” Route's Senior Principal Software Engineer Brian Call wrapped up his RoachFest talk with an anecdote about an EBS volume that had failed while he was on vacation that ended up being a non-event for his team thanks to CockroachDB’s resiliency. A data center, region, or even a cloud failure can be deeply disruptive and costly for businesses. But as our Co-Founder and CEO Spencer Kimball said in his opening keynote, we are committed to offering state-of-the-art resilience and ensuring your applications can provide always-on experiences at any scale. 📈 Scale: We learned how Iterable provides personalized cross-channel communications experiences for billions of users, how Route enables always-on data for 1 billion orders and counting, and how Devsisters has seamlessly scaled the Cookie Run franchise to 200 million users. This scale also extended globally, as our presenters shared their multi-region strategies for their applications. Netflix gave us an inside look at how they use CockroachDB-as-a-Service internally and deploy multi-region configurations based around core requirements to help developers build better apps faster, while City Storage Systems shared lessons around achieving multi-region and multi-cloud compatibility with CockroachDB. 💡 Operational efficiency: As Changwon Lee from Devsisters said in his talk, “Simple and straightforward solutions enhance collaboration and efficiency.” Beyond learning how CockroachDB has enabled scale and resiliency for mission-critical applications, we also learned how it unlocks operational efficiency so teams can focus on feature development that fuels growth rather than manual database operations.
