Dining outdoors over breezy conversation. Taking a walk downtown while chatting up a friend. In #GreenvilleSC we want our residents and guests to enjoy those simple pleasures downtown. So, we enforce our noise ordinance. Intentional revving of engines, blaring music, and amplified voices are impolite, annoying and grounds for citation. Our shop owners who want to open their doors and our restauranteurs who want to serve you on their patios join us in urging you to be courteous.

Funding our first responders. Now, building a place to honor them. The City's newly adopted budget prioritizes public safety, adding new police officers to work in our neighborhoods and parks, and equipment and vehicles to help them effectively serve and protect. It also funds upgrades at our fire stations and the construction of a new station on Stone Avenue. Earlier this week, police officers, firefighters and paramedics joined us for the groundbreaking of the Thomas and Vivian A. Wong Honor Tower at Unity Park.

A beacon. An observatory. A marker of a place once divided, now united. Today, we broke ground on the Thomas and Vivian A. Wong Honor Tower at Unity Park. The 10-story structure will honor law enforcement, first responders and veterans. It is located at what was once the intersection of Mayberry Park for Blacks and Meadowbrook Park for Whites. Now, a gathering place for all in our comm-UNITY. We eagerly await its completion next year. We're already in awe of the view.

City leaders and two dozen donors broke ground on the 10-story Thomas and Vivian A. Wong Honor Tower at Unity Park. The tower will pay tribute to military veterans and First Responders – law enforcement officers, firefighters, medical workers, mental health workers and utility linemen who save lives, keep us safe and make our community a better place to live. The $11 million cost is split evenly between city accommodation tax revenue and private contributions from 24 donors. Designed to reflect the sun during the day and lit from within at night, the tower will be a beacon to guide visitors to Unity Park. Construction is underway and should be complete by late summer of 2025.

Honoring the soulful sounds of a Greenville jazz legend. Robert “Moss” Mack played his tenor saxophone for decades as a member of Night Breeze. Moss passed away in June of 2023. At the opening ceremony of the 2nd Annual Greenville Jazz Fest, his friend and bandmate Sonny Thornton accepted an award on his behalf.
