“Over the next 20 years, we’re going to see profound changes in how we do science.” CZI’s Head of Science Stephen Quake, D.Phil. shares our vision for using AI to help researchers make discoveries about human biology. We’re building AI tools to uncover new insights about how our cells function to identify and treat disease earlier. #science #AI #biomedicine #tech #SingleCell

Building a better future for everyone.
About us
The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative was founded in 2015 to help solve some of society’s toughest challenges — from eradicating disease and improving education, to addressing the needs of our communities. Through collaboration, providing resources and building technology, our mission is to help build a more inclusive, just and healthy future for everyone. We engage directly in the communities we serve because no one understands how to address our society’s challenges better than those who live them everyday. These partners help us identify problems and opportunities, learn fast and iterate toward our audacious goals for the next century. We strive to be humble, empathetic and life-long learners who work collaboratively to develop community-centered solutions. To help build a more just, equitable future, we embrace people from all backgrounds and experiences, who challenge each other’s assumptions with fresh perspectives. To that end, we are co-creating an environment where everyone feels respected, valued and we celebrate the beauty in the diversity of our shared strength. “We are building community power so people have the agency to shape decisions that affect them.” The Bay Area is Alma Pulido’s home. As our community affairs program officer, she’s supporting organizations advancing community-based solutions to increase access to opportunity in the communities where she grew up and where she and her family still live. “Everyone deserves equitable opportunity to reach their full potential.” #community #AffordableHousing #housing #TeamCZI

Happy Pride! We are proud to stand with and celebrate the diversity and resilience of our LGBTQ+ community. Our employee resource group for LGBTQ+ CZIers chose He/She/They/Us as their Pride theme to celebrate the full spectrum of the LGBTQ+ rainbow and honor and uplift our transgender community. We believe everyone deserves to live authentically and without fear, regardless of who they love or who they are. #PrideMonth #LGBTQ #pride #Pride2024 #TeamCZI

"How we build, finance and own housing has historically been exclusionary, siloed and lacks innovation. Investing in rebuilding our housing system and supporting entrepreneurs across communities is essential for making housing more accessible, sustainable and inclusive for generations to come." CZIer Amaya Bravo-France works with organizations across the affordable housing space to develop and implement new ideas, technologies and models to create more housing and to make housing more accessible and affordable for all individuals and families. #funding #AffordableHousing #housing #TeamCZI

We need new ideas and visionary scientists to make progress in biomedicine. That’s why four years ago we launched the Ben Barres Early Career Acceleration award, and it has shown us that supporting talented early career researchers can have a big impact in driving science forward. Li Ye and his team Scripps Research are studying how the brain communicates with the rest of the body. This research can help scientists understand what drives neurodegenerative diseases and how to treat them. 📸Li Ye, using lightsheet microscopy. “Loving our neighbors means saying yes to housing.” CZIer Jennifer Martinez is helping get funding to organizations pushing for creative solutions to our state's housing crisis. Her work has helped these organizations pass policies to create and protect housing for hundreds of thousands of Californians. “For people to thrive they need a safe, affordable home.” #funding #AffordableHousing #housing #TeamCZI

“It will take all of us to make substantial, long-lasting change.” Tatiana Sanchez-Rivera is amplifying our Affordable Housing work as part of our communications team. “I uplift the incredible work and stories of CZI’s Community team, including expansive efforts to advocate for and improve housing affordability across California. Being a Bay Area native and maintaining a close tie to my community makes this work all the more meaningful.” Tatiana works to educate the public and reach new audiences on housing affordability, and most importantly, get people to join us in tackling the housing crisis. #funding #AffordableHousing #housing #TeamCZI

We're training AI on important biological data to deepen our understanding of human health and disease at a molecular level. We're honored that our vision to build virtual cell models was recognized in Fast Company's World Changing Ideas list, which celebrates companies and organizations that are pushing the frontiers of AI to address the most pressing issues of our time. https://bit.ly/4dGbnXV #AI #SciTech #science #innovation #ScienceNews

As part of our work in neuroscience, we are committed to supporting early career researchers across disciplines and expertise. “Supporting early-career investigators not only provides much needed resources in a resource-scarce world, but also allows risky and new ventures into the field which can further advance scientific discovery.” Vidhya Rangaraju and her team Max Planck Institute for Neuroscience are paving the way for identifying novel therapeutic targets to address ALS and neurodegenerative diseases #Science #Neuroscience #Neurodegeneration

Jeffrey Perkel great to see this story highlighting how CZ #CellxGene has helped researchers more effectively share, access and analyze single-cell datasets. Our team has worked very hard to build this tool to not only save time for researchers, but to encourage the development of new computational models that can advance our understanding of the heterogeneity of human cells. Together with the contributions of the single-cell community, these models will help uncover new insights about human health and disease.
"Using any one data set is relatively straightforward. But collecting, curating and integrating the data to draw conclusions across experiments, is — in the words of bioinformatician Tim Triche, Jr. at the Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan — 'a huge pain in the butt'." My latest in Nature magazine (Springer Nature Group): how the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative's CELLxGENE Discover resource simplifies single-cell RNA-seq data aggregation and analysis. https://lnkd.in/gi_MvEAB Feat.
