Healthcare providers play an important role in monitoring children’s development and identifying concerns as early as possible. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends healthcare providers: • Monitor children’s development during regular well-child visits. • Screen all children with validated tools at recommended ages to identify any areas of concern. • Ensure developmental evaluations are completed if risks are identified. From MMWR: Toxigenic Corynebacterium ulcerans can cause diphtheria-like illness in humans. It is an uncommon zoonotic pathogen with human-animal transmission dynamics that are poorly understood. Investigations in Utah and Colorado provide evidence of the risk of C. ulcerans transmission between humans and household pets. Treatment based on antibiotic susceptibility testing results led to successful infection control. CDC’s One Health approach — an approach that focuses on the connection between people, animals, and their environments — can be used to control the transmission and infection of C. ulcerans. https://bit.ly/mm7323a3
